Check out award-winning movie "Unsilenced" at Cinéma Cineplex Forum this weekend!
Based on true events, “Unsilenced” follows Wang, a university student in Beijing, and his friends as their carefree days are shattered by the 1999 order that banned the spiritual practice Falun Gong in China. As the state churns out lies and starts brutally suppressing voices of dissent, they cross paths with Daniel, a cynical American reporter struggling to find meaning in his profession in the country he loves. With the risk of prison, torture, and even death looming over them, they must all make a choice: to go with their conscience and speak the truth, or to remain silent as atrocious crimes go on behind closed doors.

Falun Dafa at McGill wishes everyone a happy Chinese New Year!
新年快樂!Happy Chinese New Year! While the New Year already passed on January 1st according to the Solar calendar, many Asian countries follow the Lunar calendar, based on monthly cycles of the moon. This year, Lunar New Year falls on February 12th. According to the Chinese zodiac, where each year in a 12-year cycle is assigned an animal, 2021 is the Year of the Ox.
Similar to American Thanksgiving, Chinese New Year is a time for family and tradition, except the new year festivities last for 15 days! On New Year’s Eve, all family members reunite as one and gather together to eat home-cooked meals, such as fish or dumplings. On New Year’s Day, respects are paid to the elders of the family on the father’s side, while on the second new year’s day, respects are paid to elders on the mother's side. With more other festivities and celebrations in between, on the 15th and final day, 元宵節 (Yuan Xiao Jie) or the first full moon of the year, families gather to eat 湯圓 (tang yuan) glutinous rice balls in a sweet dessert soup.
During Chinese New Year it is auspicious to wear red, make lots of noise and set off firecrackers, clean the house, wear new clothes, and eat well. It is also tradition for married couples or elders to give children red envelopes with money to bring good fortune their way.
How will you be celebrating Chinese New Year this year? 🧧🎉🏮

Falun Gong, also commonly known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient Chinese spiritual discipline. It consists of moral teachings and five gentle exercises that offer an effective and rewarding way to improve your health and energy levels.
At the core of the practice are the values of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Falun Gong teaches that these are the most fundamental qualities of the universe, and takes them as a guide in daily life.
Through consistent and dedicated practice, the student of Falun Gong strives to achieve a state of selflessness, greater insight and awareness, inner purity, and balance - a state of truth health.
Falun Gong has brought improved health and well-being to more than 100 million people.
The exercises can be learned free of charge.
As students who have greatly benefited from the practice, we hope that the Falun Dafa club at McGill can help us share the wonderful benefits, theories, and gentle set of exercises of Falun Dafa with the McGill community. We also hope to continue raising awareness about the persecution and dispel any misinformation, such that in the near future, one may once again see Falun Dafa practiced freely in China’s every street corner like it once did.
Being a SSMU club grant us space to practice indoors. The goals of the club are to 1) help people learn Falun Dafa by having access to on-campus exercises/meditation practices, Falun Dafa books, and Fa-study environments, and 2) to continue raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Dafa in mainland China.
Mandate
The Club’s mandate are:
To practice Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, a traditional self-cultivation practice that improves mind and body (e.g., relieve stress and anxiety, increase energy and vitality, improve physical health, promote spiritual growth and enlightenment).
To create a safe and supportive environment to study the teachings of Falun Dafa and share cultivation experiences with each other.
To teach other students, staff, and alumni about Falun Dafa, its spiritual theory, and exercises, free of charge.
To raise awareness about the ongoing persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in mainland China.
What To Expect
The Club hosts free Falun Dafa group exercise and meditation practices and introductory Falun Dafa workshops on campus. Other possible events include tabling on Activities Nights, outdoor exercise demonstrations, photo/art exhibitions, movie nights etc. All these events help spread Falun Dafa, attract club membership, and/or raise awareness about the ongoing persecution and human rights violation against Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China.
