Hold the mother, not the baby.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Because the baby’s being taken care of—⁣⁣
fed, snuggled, and given all the love in the world—⁣⁣
by not only the mother,⁣⁣
but her partner, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and friends.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But the mother,⁣⁣
may have gaps in her mind from lack of sleep,⁣⁣
may be mechanical in her motions as she’s healing,⁣⁣
may feel more like a mess than a mother,⁣⁣
may be sitting in bed, crying, feeling overwhelmed in her body and life,⁣⁣
may be full of mom guilt because in her mind, "she's not good enough,"⁣⁣
and she’s bleeding, wincing in pain, swollen and emotional.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And the mother’s that baby's whole world and needs to be seen, so she doesn't disappear into that postpartum fog.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So, hold the mother, not the baby.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
A mother agrees that her baby matters more.⁣⁣
But she’s hurting, while she’s the person behind the baby,⁣⁣
in the background, making it all happen:⁣⁣
feeding her baby at all hours,⁣⁣
snuggling her baby close to comfort newborn cries,⁣⁣
and being that baby’s everything.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So, it’s the mother who needs your love.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And a mother will remember who held her up.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So instead of “I’m coming to see the baby,”⁣⁣
try saying, “I’m coming to see you 𝘢𝘯𝘥 meet the baby, too.”⁣⁣

Because the mother needs to be held more.⁣⁣

✨ Just a little bit of what I do in a day to help families transition to life with a baby!

My shift can look different from day to day depending on the particular needs of the family but the goal is always the same... Support families in their postpartum journeys no matter what that looks like for them.

Supporting families postpartum... Cuddling babies is a bonus!

✨ THE IDEAL BIRTH...

IS A WELL INFORMED, EMPOWERED AND SUPPORTED ONE!

Whether you have a medicated or unmedicated birth, a hospital or home birth, a vaginal birth or cesarean birth the important piece is you feel like you were empowered by what you learned and what you chose to do. That you felt like you had the right people in your corner and most importantly that you felt your birth was ideal to YOU!

There is no ideal birth, but you can make it the most special moment with love and surrender ❤️

CHEERS TO THAT! 🥂

✨THE BEST PART OF BEING A POSTPARTUM DOULA....

Helping families make the transition to parenthood just a little bit easier!

I truly love supporting families in their postpartum journeys. Whether that's running errands, doing household chores, helping with infant feeding, or letting the family catch up on some sleep, I am there for you ❤️

Did you wish that you could have had extra support postpartum?

Or

Did you have the best support?

Let me know how your experiences were!!

Most people who chose unmedicated get asked something like:

But why would you choose the pain?

It's pretty simple...

Have you heard of people running marathons? Going on long term hiking adventures? Playing any sport at a competitive level? Ice baths? All those things require pain. There are so many things to be discovered about yourself and experienced in the body in these experiences and birth is the same. I want the rewards, the hormone symphony, the second wind, the high, the feeling of achievement, to feel proud of myself and learn new love and respect for my body. My unmedicated births were some of the most rewarding days of my life and I wouldn't change them for anything.

What do you say when asked why you would go unmedicated?

Happy International Day of the Midwife!

Today is about celebrating the incredible midwive's we have right here in Alberta and the sacred practice of around the world.

Every day midwives make a difference in the communities they serve, for birthing people, their families, and their babies. The care that midwives give families can lead to positive birth experiences because of the continuity of care prenatally, birth, and postpartum.

I am so honored to have worked along side a few midwives here in our city and want to thank them all!

Here is where you can find and register for midwifery care here in Alberta CA.
