Who We Are

Life Essentials is run by Sonya Pope, a proud Kootenay resident for over 17 years with a passion for first aid and water safety. Sonya knows first-hand the importance of having the training and knowledge to provide basic rescue and resuscitation. Life Essentials was started so Sonya can help people in her community gain the valuable life skills of basic first-aid, whether needed for a workplace, for child-care, or simply for personal knowledge. She believes that everyone should consider first-aid an essential asset in their lives because it may help save a life someday.

Life Essentials is affiliated with the Lifesaving Society BC/YK and The Canadian Red Cross both are non-profit organizations that provides water safety services and first aid training through the province. The Lifesaving Society is equivalent and transferable with The Canadian Red Cross, The Heart & Stroke Foundation, St. John Ambulance & Canadian Ski Patrol.

Sonya has been a member of the Lifesaving Society since 2009 and started her career in first aid and water safety as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the Nelson & District Community Complex. For almost 11 years she’s been serving the community as a lifeguard and Head Instructor, promoting swimming lessons, first-aid and water safety. With Life Essentials, she hopes to share her knowledge, skills and passion through contracted and private first aid classes throughout the West Kootenays.
