PEMF vs. Kissing Spine
Kissing Spine can be a challenging diagnosis for both horses and owners. While it doesn’t have a “quick fix,” supportive therapies can make a big difference in comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life. One of the most effective tools we use as part of a management plan is PEMF therapy.
How PEMF Supports Horses with Kissing Spine:
• Relieves Muscle Tension: Horses with KS often carry a lot of tightness along the topline. PEMF helps relax those deep muscles so the spine can move more freely.
• Reduces Inflammation: Gentle electromagnetic pulses help increase circulation and decrease localized inflammation around the affected vertebrae.
• Eases Pain & Improves Comfort: Many horses show less sensitivity in the back, improved posture, and a more relaxed way of going after regular PEMF sessions.
• Supports Rehab & Strengthening: By improving comfort, PEMF allows horses to engage properly during rehab exercises, core work, and under-saddle strengthening programs.
It is important to remember PEMF does not cure the bony changes associated with kissing spine. Instead, it’s a supportive therapy that works best as part of a full treatment plan—alongside veterinary care, proper saddle fit, physio/chiro, and a structured exercise program.
If your horse has been diagnosed with kissing spine and you’re looking for ways to help them feel and move better, PEMF may be a game-changer.
