Most parents are taught to respond immediately when their child wakes at night.

But not every night waking needs an immediate reaction.

Sometimes your child is:
• shifting between sleep cycles
• briefly stirring
• learning to resettle on their own

And when we rush in too quickly, we can unintentionally fully wake them up or make it harder for them to settle back down.

Try this instead:

➝ Pause before going in
Give it a moment before responding

➝ Observe first
Are they fully awake or just stirring?

➝ If you do respond, keep it calm and minimal
Soft voice, dim light, low interaction

➝ Keep the message clear: it’s still sleep time

Gentle sleep support is not about doing more, it’s about responding in a way that protects sleep while still offering comfort.
