Today, we remember. ❤️

The poppy reminds us of courage, sacrifice, and the strength that lives on in every act of kindness and care.

May we honour that spirit in how we live, listen, and show up for one another.

Lest we forget.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for some, not all of us.

This season can be hard for many, especially those navigating loss, loneliness, or simply the weight of expectations.

And if you struggle with anxiety, this time of year can feel even more overwhelming.
Many of my clients I work with one-on-one for anxiety tell me it’s the best investment they’ve ever made.

Together, we use body-based tools and nervous system regulation techniques to help calm, release, and re-center. So you feel better in your body.

As a Certified Athletic Therapist, my sessions may even be covered under your health plan.
If you’ve been thinking about starting, this is your sign to begin before the holidays hit full swing.

Gentle reminder: your peace matters just as much as your productivity.
Always here to help and listen with a non-judgmental heart.

I still remember what it felt like to live with back pain.

Years ago, I was shovelling melting snow and hurt my back; it hurt to move so much! 😱

The frustration,
the inability to move the way I was used to,
the way it crept into everything I did affected not just me,
but my family, my job, my lifestyle!

I just wanted to feel like me again.
I explored traditional roles of therapy, and nothing was creating a long-term fix, until I understood that my pain was coming from the dysfunctional movement that I created, and my muscles were in spasm.

Knock on wood, but I haven’t had any pain since!

That was one experience that changed how I show up for the people I work with.

Statistics show that 80% of the population will experience low back pain, with more women than men.
Pain carries physical, emotional, and social components; it creeps into many aspects of life.

This is why it is important to have a therapist who addresses ALL aspects of you.🙌

My work is about more than just pain relief; it’s about helping people feel supported, seen, and at home in their bodies again.

I love including a holistic approach to healing; it has made all the difference for the clients I serve.

Her work supporting marginalized communities has always come from the heart, but it also came with a cost.

She opens up about her experience as a q***r, a person of colour, Filipina woman navigating a world that doesn’t always make space for her.

In a society that treats rest like a luxury, .justine reminds us that sometimes the most radical thing we can do… is pause and breathe.

Thank you for your sharing your truth Mikaela 🙏✨

I’ve noticed a few new faces here lately, so I thought it’d be a good time to answer a few of the questions I get most often:

Are you an Athletic Therapist❓
Are you a Yoga Teacher❓
What exactly do you offer❓

And I thought this would be a great time to clear up some of those questions.

The truth is… what I do at Jackie Vandertuin Therapy blends both.🙌

For those of you who don’t know, I am on a year’s sabbatical, as I am a full-time professor at Sheridan College, teaching Athletic Therapy.

This year, I’m living my dream of helping people heal

Athletic Therapy is for everybody, not just athletes.
It focuses on assessing, treating, and preventing injuries and movement issues that affect your muscles and joints.
Depending on the ailment, it could look like a combination of hands-on treatment, movement re-education, and exercise therapy to help your body heal, move freely, and function at its best.

I’m also a yoga teacher and teach at GoYoga; however, when it comes to my private practice, what I really do is blend "yogic principles”, like nervous system regulation, into treatment.

Why❓

Because it helps people uncover what’s happening beneath the surface, physically, mentally, and emotionally — so they can move, feel, and live better.
If you’re curious what that looks like, take a look through these slides to understand how both Athletic Therapy and Yogic Principles align beautifully to help your body heal.

If you’re struggling with pain - physically or emotionally (such as anxiety) I’d be honoured to work with you.

Have you ever experienced back pain?

🟦 YES = 👍 🟥 NO = ❤️

Interesting Back-pain facts for Canada:

👉Up to 80% of Canadian adults will experience at least one episode of back pain in their lifetime.*
👉Around 18.9% of Canadian adults (ages 18-65) report chronic back problems (lasting or expected to last 6 months +) diagnosed by a health professional.**
👉Women and indigenous peoples have a higher prevalence.
👉Back problems are among the most common chronic conditions in Canada, and they often begin between the ages of 30 and 50.

It fascinates me how often the real problem isn’t where the pain lives — it’s what’s causing it.
So many patients come to see me for back pain, and through a postural assessment, we discover where the problem is coming from.

Lasting relief starts when we look deeper to understand why.

That’s where I come in, helping you discover why it’s happening, not just where it hurts.

If you’re looking for answers, let’s start the conversation.

You might think your back pain is coming from your back, but often, it’s not. 😲

It could be from tight hips, weak glutes, rounded shoulders, or even the way you sit at your desk; these are all areas that subtly pull your body out of alignment creating opportunities for pain to be felt in your back.

Here’s how I can help.

I offer what’s called a postural assessment. As a Certified Athletic Therapist, I can help uncover:

1️⃣ Factors that are contributing to your pain
2️⃣ How your body compensates in movement, and why that might be contributing to your pain
3️⃣ Small changes that can you can do to reduce tension and improve mobility
4️⃣ How your alignment impacts your energy, mobility, stability, and breathing
5️⃣ Next steps to keep your body feeling strong and supported

Once we know what we’re dealing with, I can help put a plan into action so you can feel better. 🙏

Assessments are 45 mins in length, $80, and the start to a ‘new you’.
