We are excited to announce an in-person program offering!

Join us November 27th, 29th, and 30th for our Trauma Recovery: Phase 1 intensive group, facilitated by Rick Goodwin, MSW, RSW. This group will be held in-person in Ottawa, ON (location to be released soon). If you've ever thought about joining one of our groups, now is the time. All participants will also receive a copy of Rick's new book Men's Road to Healing : The Definitive Guidebook to Recovery from Childhood Abuse and Trauma.

Did you know:
- Roughly 26% of men report childhood physical or s*xual abuse by an adult (before age 15). Statistics Canada
- Among men 45–54, about 1 in 3 (31%) have reported their experience of childhood victimization. Statistics Canada
- During childhood, most do not tell: only ~7% reported to police/child protection; ~67% told no one before age 15. Statistics Canada

Our goal is for Men to know they are not alone in these experiences, and to provide an opportunity to find community as a means to healing. The group combines a mix of psychoeducation and group expression in the here and now.

It's about Men. It's about time. Recovery is possible.

Join us in welcoming Patrice to our Men & Healing Family!

We are delighted to have Patrice joining us as our Student Therapist for the months of May - August to offer no-cost sessions to clients residing in Ontario, under the supervision of our Clinical Director, Saeid Kianpour, PhD, RP.

Patrice has an extensive academic background and is currently pursuing his Masters in the Counseling and Spirituality program at Saint Paul University in Ottawa. Patrice uses an eclectic approach to therapy drawing from cognitive behavioral (CBT), emotion focused (EFT), family systems, and psychoanalytic approaches. Patrice can support you in working with: general wellbeing and life transitions, self-esteem, stress management, mood concerns, and healing from trauma. Patrice is also available to see couples upon request.

S*x can be source of joy and fulfillment, yet almost everyone is raised with ignorance and fear about s*x and with shame about their own s*xual feelings, interests and desires. As a result, when people feel their s*xual behaviour is out of control, it can be a source of problems, shame and pain. Preoccupation with p**n or with ma********on, multiple infidelities, s*xual risk-taking are some behaviours that lead people to feel that they are out of control. Some refer to this feeling as “s*x addiction,” but the idea that our s*xuality can be addictive is an unproven speculation and highly controversial.

In this ten week, process-oriented group counselling program, our focus will not be on ending the behaviour, but on accepting, owning, and taking responsibility for it. Members will examine their relationship with their s*xuality as way to better understand it and to gain greater control over s*xual behaviour. Participants will learn skills for relating s*xually to others in healthy and appropriate ways, and for taking responsibility for their s*xual choices.

A coupla pics from the Governor General ceremony earlier this month. My colleague and i were awarded the "Meritorious Service Medal" for establishing the Men's Project in Ottawa and pioneering men's trauma recovery programming in Canada.
