In Chinese Medicine menopause is referred to as the Second Spring. It represents a time when women receive initiation into more inuitive capacities of the heart. There is a newfound focus on nourishing the inner world, inner truths, and the self.

Menopause is a process of vital energy conservation. The body focuses vital essences on self-preservation. During menstruating and child bearing years vital energy reserves may be depleted resulting in a greater imbalance as women make this transition. This is often reflected in symptoms associated with menopause such as night sweats and hot flashes, or sleep irregularities.

Western views of this time result in women believing there is something wrong with them, that aging and this time of change is a disease to be cured, or that they have less value in the world. These limited views miss the opportunities to support the transition and support the individual.

Luckily, Eastern Medicine offers insights, support, and healing modalities to welcome this time of transition. Offering women the tools to listen to their bodies, sometimes for the first time in their lives, and move towards a place of welcoming or even embracing a renewed sense towards wisdom, willpower, and purpose.

The body already has the capacity to heal within.

When the body experiences illness, injury, or disease a large percent of it continues to be in a state of health. Instead of focusing on the health that is present and supporting the body one might;

Avoid messaging the body is giving and disassociate.
Hyper focus on the area of illness or injury. where focus goes more energy flows.
Continue to expose the body to the factors that have created imbalance such as eat denatured foods, or push the body to maximum stress levels.

This can be improved upon by;
Listening to the body and bringing awareness and curiosity to areas that are communicating a problem.
Acknowledge the space that is healthy and well. Bringing focus to these spaces allows for energy to flow from them into unwell spaces, supporting healing.
Making change in lifestyle to reduce contributing factors of imbalance including stress, diet, work, and movement.
Investing in support, this is not a path one must walk alone.

Acupuncture is used as a tool to support the body in healing. This is effective because where energy is stuck this tool can help unblock flow, where energy is deficient this tool can build it up, and where it is excess this tool can disperse unnecessary energy.

Regulating this energy helps support the body in healing and in creating states of balance. More than just symptom relief it is a method of supporting the whole being.

A focus on symptoms alone misses the opportunity to bring the whole body into a state of well being. Acupuncture can support the whole.

Sudden and unexpected bouts of dizziness are no small thing.

But once you get checked out and cleared of all the possible BIG causes... it may just be the small anatomy in our ear contributing to the problem.

80% of vertigo is caused by BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) and is due to crystals drifting into the semicircular canals of the inner ear. These canals are responsible for helping our brain understand where we are in space so we can stay balanced.

When there is a crystal in one of these canals it causes fluid within the canal to move more when we reposition our head. This stimulates the balance nerve (cranial nerve 8), causing vertigo.

Other symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, loss of balance, and nystagmus (jumping eyes).

There are three different canals the crystals could move into, the most common is the posterior canal. In the clinic our Registered Acupuncturist uses manual positions to help identify which canal is involved and manual maneuvers specific to that canal to help shift the crystals out of the canal.

In addition to the manual maneuvers she offers Acupuncture points that help to calm and regulate the nervous system. This supports the brain and nervous system adapting more optimally to changes in the canal.

Having support when doing these maneuvers can provide allot of benefit including understanding which canal to work with, what maneuver to do, and which side of the body is involved.

When the maneuvers are performed vertigo will occur and so it is beneficial to have someone guiding and supporting you along the way. It is also beneficial to have a ride home.

Whether it is your first occurrence of vertigo, you have had it before, or it seems to be ongoing for a bit of time and won't resolve on its own, we can offer support and guidance to help bring you back to a more regulated and balanced state.

Tis the season for joy and cheer. But what happens when we are not feeling in the Holiday spirit?

This time of year can bring with it grief, depression, stress, anxiety and a number of other emotions that can dampen our capacity for the holidays.

Acupuncture offers support for our nervous system, helping it to regulate, and for our emotions to shift. It works to address underlying imbalances in our qi and vital systems. It can also be beneficial for all ages.

Studies show that acupuncture is effective for mood disorders, such as anxiety, with fewer side effects than medications. It can also be effectively used in combination with other care and treatment options.

For many clients the experience is nourishing, relaxing, and offers a restful and calming space. Our acupuncturist uses a number of modalities including cupping, gua sha, Tui na, auricular seeds, moxa, and acupuncture needles to support the body holistically.

Book in and access care that is client centred, supportive, and deeply nourishing for to the spirit.

Imagine less pain and a better golf game come spring!

With inclement weather approaching quickly the local golf scene is likely to be changing. Be it fair weather or hardy all season play, it is not uncommon for golfers to experience back pain.

This low season makes for a great opportunity to relieve pain and incorporate functional movement to balance the body and support it in preparation for next season.

Pain could be due to a number of causes including:

🏌️‍♀️repetitive rotation and movement due to swinging the golf club, causing imbalance and muscle weakness

🏌🏿posture and individual compensatory patterns the body has learned overtime and is stuck in

🏌🏽‍♂️older injuries that didn’t heal well being aggravated

⛳️ degeneration and changes in the spine, hips, and nerves

If back pain is an issue then we recommend working with our team to help reduce the pain, inflammation, and activate healing using acupuncture.

Pair that with our movement specialist and kinesiologist Austin once a week in order to rebuild strength, lubricate the joints through functional movement, and create balance between each side of the body.

Long term this can benefit pain reduction and create body conditioning that can improve the game come spring!

In combination Acupuncture and Movement work well to balance the body and bring it into a state of health and vitality. If pain is stopping you from movement you enjoy, like golf, let it move you into the clinic for some much needed care and rehabilitation.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” isn’t that how the saying goes?

Let’s welcome in this cold and flu season using complimentary medicine, such as Acupuncture, to support and even bolster the immune system before illness occurs.

Historically one concept that was embedded in Chinese Medicine was to praise and compensate the doctor when health was maintained rather than when disease occurred. The belief was “To cure disease is like waiting until one is thirsty before digging a well”. Thus, when we work to support health we help prevent disease.

Chinese Medicine recognizes an external pathogen invading the body when illness occurs. The protective Qi of the body, like a little army, mounts an attack to dispel this pathogen. The quality of this protective Qi, and the strength of our Lung Qi which supports it, will determine how successful this army will be and how long it takes to recover.

With this philosophy in mind it would reason that being proactive and supporting this qi, ensuring that our own armies are prepared and fortified, is one of the best ways to support the bodies ability to fight. Acupuncture can activate, support, and help restore the immune system.

Whether planning ahead and working to prevent illness, or recovering and needing that extra support for a speedy recovery Acupuncture can assist and support the body. Book in today and see what this ancient medicine has to offer even in these modern times.

Suffering with painful joints and being told that there isn’t anything to do about it, it’s just the cost of getting old?

Arthritis is due to inflammation and swelling in the joints. There are several types of arthritis as well as several causes. Sometimes this changes how allopathic medicine approaches care for this painful and, often debilitating, condition. Often though, the cause is chalked up to old age or wear and tear.

Chinese Medicine sees arthritic conditions a bit differently. Because it assess the flow and nature of Qi, our vital life force, within the body. Identifying imbalances and the root causes of these conditions allows acupuncture to have a great affect on Arthritis of any kind.

Pain, inflammation, and joint swelling can be greatly improved over several treatments as does the quality of clients lives. Over the course of care we shift towards maintenance appointments to support the body and maintain the benefit of pain management achieved.

Resist accepting that there is nothing to be done and instead take action to improve your own health, living the best quality of life you can. Book in for an initial appointment today.
