🤷♀️Caregiving - it’s a tough job. As family members age or become ill with disease they begin to require more care. Often we step into the caregiver role because we love our family member and want to be there in whatever capacity we can. As much of a blessing as that is, it is also a tough role because of the added responsibility to our already busy lives. Add to that, the responsibilities connected to coordination of services, bureaucracy etc., it’s overwhelming. This often leaves us feeling guilty for feeling worn out.
A Doula can help. A person does not need to be in the final stages of life to be supported by a Doula. They may have a number of years left but family caregivers just need some support with the things that are overwhelming. One of the best things you can do as a caregiver is care for yourself 🧘by finding a balance with your time. Let a Doula take care of the stuff that takes away from the time you want to spend with your family member.
Doulas provide non medical support to people and their families in the form of planning, legacy projects, managing daily tasks, conversations and recording of end of life wishes, funeral planning, managing government requirements and applications or medical paperwork among others. We are an unconditional presence in the lives of the person and family driven by individual and family needs and desires.
If you feel like you or a family member could benefit from these supports reach out. We can have a conversation to discuss how I might be able to support you. Barbs@hsacanada.ca 💫🙏
