Do you know what a tongue-tie really looks like?
It’s not always about speech or feeding issues.
It can show up as:
– Poor sleep
– Snoring
– Mouth breathing
– Forward head posture
– Clenching & grinding
– Restless nights and low energy days

Because when the tongue is restricted, it can sit low and back—blocking the airway and triggering long-term compensation patterns that affect sleep, posture, and facial growth.

The solution isn’t just releasing the restriction.
It’s about restoring function.

That’s why we’re excited to invite you to an advanced 4-day course in July led by Dr. Soroush Zaghi and The Breathe Institute (TBI):
– Learn how to assess oral restrictions
– Understand the impact on airway, sleep, and development
– Watch a live functional frenuloplasty
– Deepen your skills in diagnosis and collaborative care

Join us in person or via live stream.
Let’s elevate the standard of care—because sleep, breathing, and function start with the airway.

DM us for details or click the link in bio to save your seat.

Your tongue is a small but mighty muscle!

Did you know that the proper position of your tongue during early development years can have a huge impact on your craniofacial features?

✨ 👅 The light and constant pressure against the palate along with proper lip seal guides maxillary growth.

🚫👅 Low tongue posture can lead to a high narrow palate.

🚫👃🏼A high/narrow palate can effect your ability to breathe through your nose properly.

🚫👄 Mouth breathing during critical development can lead to maldevelopment of the jaw which leads to dental crowding and malocclusion.

The good news is that Myofunctional Therapy can help! Achieving nasal breathing, proper lip seal, correct tongue posture/chewing and swallowing pattern will help restore proper function and lead to improvements in overall health.

What is a Ankyloglossia “tongue-tie” ??

Ankyloglossia is a condition of altered tongue mobility due to the presence of restrictive tissue between the undersurface of the tongue and the floor of mouth. Restricted tongue mobility may be caused by a short mucosal lingual frenulum and/or by sub-mucosal myofascial fibers of the underlying genioglossus muscle that are fibrosed and impair optimal oral functions. Ankyloglossia may also be attributed to scar tissue from a prior surgical procedure or other trauma.

The un-tethered mobility of the tongue is required for optimal speech, chewing, swallow, oral hygiene, and breathing functions, as well as for development of the maxillofacial complex and upper airway.

The tongue is a powerhouse muscle in our bodies. It plays a major role in some of the most important functions of our body: Chewing, Swallowing, Breathing and Speech.

If our tongue is not functioning properly, our body will overcompensate in other ways. This can lead to:

TMJ
Headaches
Facial/Neck Tension
Mouth Breathing
Ear Infections/Ringing in Ears
Digestive Issues..just to name a few!

Myofunctional Therapy helps to address and correct the disfunction of the muscles involved, leading to a healthier, happier life!

A small but powerful muscle, the tongue plays a ✨vital✨ role in our overall health.

The importance of tongue positioning! 👅✨

Did you know it plays a crucial role in various aspects of your health and well-being? From facial development to teeth alignment, breathing patterns to quality of sleep, and even neck tension to swallowing mechanics, the position of your tongue matters more than you might think 👅

👅 Your tongue could be affecting your overall health! You hear about tongue tie releases in babies but did you know children and adults can benefit as well?

A tongue tie is when the range of movement of your tongue is restricted by a piece of tissue called the frenum. It can be too short or tight causing your tongue to be locked in place. Tongue ties can vary from minimal to severe but each one is worth looking into.

The tongue plays a major role in our ability to properly:
👃Breathe
🦷Chew
🥛Swallow
🗣Speak

When the tongue is restricted, our body is forced to compensate in other ways which can lead to a variety of symptoms including:
😬Jaw pain
🙊Speech problems
🦷Tooth decay
😴Snoring
🤕Headaches
😮Mouth breathing

If you are tongue tied, having it released by a properly trained professional can lead to improvements in your overall health. A Myofunctional Therapist will connect you with the right provider and provide all the resources and help along the way.

🤕Temporomandibular Disorders are a common occurrence and can be related to an Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder.

Our tongue posture influences the growth of our palate and jaw. With an incorrect tongue posture (for example: a tongue tie), it can lead to improper muscle function with chewing, swallowing, speaking and breathing. This can lead to other muscles in our face, jaw and neck to overcompensate, leading to pain and discomfort.

Myofunctional Therapy helps to restore proper muscle function and can help alleviate the pain/tension felt with TMDs.

Where does your tongue rest? 🤔

The tongue should be lightly sealed against the roof with your lips closed. If you feel any strain while trying to achieve this, there may be an obstruction in the way. This is where Myofunctional Therapy comes in!

Learning how the muscles of the face are supposed to function is a step towards better health, from head to toe!

The tongue’s position plays a role in directing airflow for breathing. 👅

When the tongue is up and sealed to the palate, it helps create a seal that encourages airflow through the nose.

Lowering the tongue allows air to flow in and out of the mouth, which is how mouth breathing occurs. The tongue’s position can impact the passage of air and influence the breathing route.

Where is your tongue at rest?

People of all ages can benefit from Myofunctional Therapy but especially children.

SWIPE to learn certain indicators to look for.

Intervention at a young age can help prevent improper facial growth, help establish proper breathing habits, aid in the elimination of oral habits (thumb sucking, nail biting, etc) and more!
