I am a 2023 graduate of the Massage Therapy Program at Fleming College, which she entered after a very fulfilling and successful career for 21 years as a Certified Level 2 Dental Assistant. My love for treating the entire body as a whole unit to isolate a single issue, and the drive to find the “why” is what lead me to change careers. My experience of working inside the mouth and working alongside some Dentists that took her along in their continuing education to fully understanding the correlation between the way teeth come together, coupled with the way the jaw joint itself is situated, has shown that it has so much impact on the incidence of the TMJ (jaw joint) dysfunction related symptoms in the general population. These symptoms include “clicking”, “popping” noises, or jaw locking, jaw “tiredness” from chewy foods (or inability to consume them at all), tension headaches, feelings of sinus congestion, or even tinnitus (ringing in the ears). During my career in the dental field, I have been able to be an active participant in helping patients find relief of some of these symptoms and regain some overall balance in their bite. Since becoming a Registered Massage Therapist, I have also continued this passion with some continuing education courses on both TMJ dysfunction Massage, along with further Intra Oral Massage techniques courses to extend her knowledge of this complex joint. My experience in the public clinic within the Fleming College program also made her very versatile in treating the whole body with techniques such as Trigger Point therapy, Connective Tissue release, lengthening the muscle, relaxation, and superficial fluid manipulation, along with active and passive release methods to optimize a client’s massage successes.
