One of my favourite guiding principals in my yoga practice is "sukha & sthira" meaning sweet & steady. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
If you are practicing yoga using these principals it helps to ensure that you're practicing in a way that honours ahimsa (non-harming) towards yourself, towards your body and your unique needs. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
This is a practice that I believe more than ever is important to practice off of your yoga mat right now too. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
To live in this period of your life from a place of subtle softness, so that you can remain steady in this time of challenge. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
We're in this for the long-haul (and that's OK!), so let yourself be gentle, be soft, and surrender. Give yourself lots of grace and forgiveness. ⁠⠀

🌊 Time to chill out 🌊 ⠀

If you didn’t know not all yoga is the same and not all yoga has the same effects on the body, brain and nervous system. (This doesn’t mean one is better than the other, but it does mean that you should intentionally choose what you want to practice in any given moment depending on your goal at the time!).

Some types of yoga are better at stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system (the rest & digest system) then others. ⠀

Here are three simple yoga poses to help you chill out and rest inward. ✨

1. ⠀Supta Buddha Konasana
2.⠀Supported Child’s Pose
3.⠀Legs Up The Wall

Hold each posture for 3-7 minutes (stay as long as is comfortable!). Use this time to chill out, close your eyes and simply breathe. ⠀

Tip: if any of the postures feel too intense or distracting, then use pillows and blankets to support any limbs/parts of your body that is feeling too much stretch, to essentially “fill the gap” between your body and the ground.

How are you holding up dear friend?⠀

I’ve been tucked away in my little apartment, taking sometime and trying to process. ⠀

To process how I’m feeling. ⠀

To process how “all of this” has changed so much for so many. ⠀

To process how I feel drained and depleted when I get home from grocery shopping. {My heart goes out to you if you’re working in these spaces}.⠀

To process how I feel when my future-hubby goes off to work in the hospital or clinic. {My heart goes out to everyone working in healthcare and everyone cleaning and maintaining these spaces}.⠀

To process how I feel knowing my sister is home from her 6 month trip and I still haven’t seen her and I don’t know when I’ll be able to hug her. ⠀

To process the reality that my grandmother like so many other elderly are sitting alone not understanding why they’re not getting visited. ⠀

To process my thoughts and fears. ⠀

To process my soul whispers that have been rising so quickly and loudly in this time of pause. ⠀

So I took the time I needed this week to not really post on here, to not to record any live yoga classes, to process as needed in each given moment. ⠀

If you’re processing too, know that my heart feels for you.⠀

Know that you’re not alone in your feelings and your processing. ⠀

That whatever you’re experiencing is okay.⠀

That it’s okay to take time for yourself and to let go of self-imposed expectations. ⠀

Now is not the time to make yourself busy and force things. Now is the time to really feel what you’re feeling and experience those feelings. ⠀

Whatever you don’t feel now, you will have to feel later. ⠀

Whatever you don’t process now, will be held in your body as unfelt emotion, baggage, trauma. ⠀

Keep your heart open dear friend and remember you’ve got to feel it, to heal it. ⠀

Or do you feel muddled by all the noise in the world? Uncertain of where the world ends and you begin?⁠⠀

I sometimes feel that way. Unsure of where my centre is. Uncertain of my edges. Unsure of if I am who I really like I am, or am I a collection of my interactions with the world, of other people's stories, of things yet to be surrendered.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Well now is the time to explore. To uncover. To ask questions of yourself and to wait for the whispers from within to guide you. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Now is the time to let yourself uncover who you are and who you aren't. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Turn within my sister. Let your own light guide you home. 💗⁠⠀
⁠⠀

I hope when you turn within you feel calm, grounded & clear, but it's okay if you don't. ⁠⠀

Take the time to lay down, pillow your knees, cover your eyes with an eye pillow (if you've got one - a clean hand towel if you don't), and cover your body with a blanket if that helps you feel comfortable, cozy and safe. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Put on a long, super chill song ~ I like "Silence of Siberia" by Lowercase Noises (7 minutes long) or "Devi Prayer" by Craig Pruess & Ananda (21 minutes long - YOU KNOW YOU'VE GOT TIME). ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
✨and. just. lay. there. just breath.✨⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Then ask yourself, is this enough? Can I ALLOW this to be enough? These moments. This time. This pause. My actions. ME. Can you ALLOW (and BELIEVE) that you are enough right now?⁠⠀

Last night when I went to go live with the Love Bath meditation in the Body & Breath Yoga Insiders Facebook community, there were some technical difficulties. 😔 Twenty minutes of trying to load and reload the page while all I got back was a blank buffering page. 🤷🏽‍♀️

So going with the flow I decided last night wasn't the night and that I needed to re-evaluate.

Monday - Friday I'll be dropping a zoom link in the Body & Breath Yoga Insiders Facebook community and my email list's inbox (join either via the link in my bio or DM!). Offering some form of yoga, meditation or movement at 11:30. Classes will range from 20 - 40 minutes depending on the style and theme.

Today I am still getting somethings worked out and organized, but I will be hopping on live tomorrow at 11:30! Want to join? Anyone is welcome and yes, these classes are free!

(That being said if you feel called to support small business and have the resources to do so, you can pay-what-you-can via e-transfer. As a small business owner of Body & Breath Massage, I still have overhead to pay and like so many I'm not able to work due to COVID-19).
