Pictou County Community Health Boards

Pictou County Community Health Boards Pictou County CHB are using the page to update you on meetings, events and ongoing Community Health Plan work.

Community health boards are the eyes, ears and voices of the community and its residents. As a group of dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers, the community health boards work with Pictou County residents and the Pictou County Health Authority to improve the overall health of the community. In 2009 with consultation from the community and the Pictou County Health Authority, members from Central/East Pictou and West Pictou Community Health Boards drafted a Community Health Plan. Out of the plan, we were able to partner up with organizations in the surrounding community and fund their programs and initiatives that addressed the issues brought up in our plan. As we move forward in 2013, we look to team up with those in the surrounding community again during our Community Conversations or by filling out a survey online or in paper format. In the drafting stages of our 2014 Community Health Plan for Pictou County, it is important for your voice to be heard...

Today, September 30, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. From 1867 to 1996, 140 federally run residential schools operated across Canada. Survivors fought for recognition, reparations and accountability for the intergenerational impacts and harms of these institutions.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which ran from 2008 to 2015, released its final report with 94 Calls to Action. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation exists because of Call to Action 80, which called for a federal statutory day of commemoration.

At Nova Scotia Health, it is our obligation to ensure Indigenous patients, families, and communities receive the culturally safe care and support they deserve.

Together, we are delivering change in several ways; whether through care guided by the Miโ€™kmaw Indigenous Patient Navigator team (visit this link for more information: https://www.nshealth.ca/clinics-programs-and-services/mikmaw-indigenous-patient-navigator-mipn), or delivered by health professionals from Indigenous communities, like registered nurse Bridget Matthews Cremo (read Bridget's story here: https://www.nshealth.ca/news-and-notices/living-authentically-bridget-matthews-cremo).
