Tendon and ligament injuries don’t truly end when swelling goes down or a horse looks sound. These tissues heal slowly and sometimes don't regain their original strength. Long-term success depends on managing inflammation appropriately, supporting tissue remodeling, and preventing overload during and after rehab.

Medications:
* NSAIDs (short-term only, not a long-term solution)
* Regenerative therapies such as PRP or IRAP when indicated
* In select cases, intra-lesional treatments guided by ultrasound
* Supportive joint or soft tissue medications as part of a full plan

Therapies:
* Shockwave therapy for certain tendon and ligament injuries
* PEMF, laser therapy, or therapeutic ultrasound to support healing
* Controlled cold therapy early, followed by appropriate heat later
* Structured, progressive rehabilitation programs based on imaging

Preventatives:
* Regular ultrasound rechecks to guide workload increases
* Proper farrier balance to reduce abnormal strain
* Gradual conditioning and avoidance of sudden workload spikes
* Consistent footing and avoiding deep or uneven surfaces
* Addressing mild swelling or soreness early before it becomes injury

Even with excellent management, tendons and ligaments remain more vulnerable after injury. Long-term soundness relies on realistic expectations, smart conditioning, and listening when a horse tells you something isn’t right.

Always consult your veterinarian and perform appropriate diagnostics before starting or changing treatment plans. These timelines and strategies are general guidelines. Every horse, injury, and discipline is different.
