Women that may resonate with having perfectionist tendencies (🙋♀️😅) may find pregnancy, birth and postpartum quite disorienting. When we are used to being in control, studying, learning, achieving, ticking all of the boxes, the uncertainty and roller coaster-like nature of postpartum can really come as a shock to some of our previous patterns (that have served us well in other stages of life) but are not what is actually required of us in postpartum.
When late night google searches have us spiralling, wondering the ‘right’ way to do something, when our babies don’t follow what the books say (hint: many many don’t), and feeling like nothing had been achieved in a day because there isn’t really a tangible measure of success in this phase of life.
If any of this feels true for you, you are definitely not alone and it is actually an extremely common response.
Right now is where gentleness, self-compassion and a sound listening ear can be so nourishing and really really helpful.
Be gentle with yourself as you learn something for the first time (where there is no manual), work on accepting the fact that perfection doesn’t exist and keep reminding yourself of ALL the things you are doing extraordinarily (I can assure you there will be many!)
Sending so much love to anyone in this stage, or even if you are not there anymore but reflecting on what your experience was like ❤️
