Did you know that exercise can help maintain memory, focus and multitasking ability when diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease?

Well, it can! And I had the pleasure of teaching this topic at the 2025 Fall conference.

It was so fun to see everyone try out dual-task exercises and give their brains and bodies a workout!

The laughter in the room was infectious!

Defy PD is an 8 week program beginning May 6th that focuses on symptom management, fall prevention and maintaining independence, so that you can thrive with PD.

The program includes live ZOOM classes every Tuesday from 10-10:45am, as well as the recordings from each class that you can do on your own anytime! Each class is led by Katie Yeandle, Registered Kinesiologist, who specializes in exercise for PD.

Classes are a circuit style class, meaning we alternate between high intensity and low intensity exercises that challenge strength, endurance, balance, size of movement, fine motor skills, cognition, and more. Each class begins with a warm up and ends with stretching.

This program is perfect for those in early to mid stages who want to…

-Feel stronger
-Boost energy
-Sleep better
-Feel less stiff
-Maintain their memory and ability to multi-task

Starting a fitness routine can be overwhelming.

I get it.

When you’re feeling that self-doubt creep in, remember these.

1️⃣ Don’t compare your chapter 1 to their chapter 20, but remember that if it’s possible for them, it’s possible for you.

2️⃣ 20% is better than 0%. 3 exercises are better than no exercises. Not every workout has to be at 100% effort or followed to a T.

3️⃣ Exercise is a new stimulus for your body, even if it feels easy during the workout you will likely feel sore after. Start slow and small and build up as you gauge your post-workout recovery.

4️⃣ We can get so caught up with how far away our goals still feel, but don’t forget to look back and celebrate how far you’ve come! As well as your little wins along the way!

2. Exercise to manage Parkinson’s Disease symptoms

My goal with this program is to help women gain confidence and passion about strength training so that they can stay strong, prevent osteoporosis and live independently for decades to come.

Have you ever wanted to join a team, committee or class and been afraid that you won’t be welcomed?

I’ve been there too.

When I joined my softball team I was terrified that the other players wouldn’t think I’m good enough.

I remember being scared to tell them I wanted to pitch, knowing that they had 2 pitchers who played college ball and I never made it out of house-league.

The first game I pitched was nerve-racking to say the least. But to my surprise, the entire team was cheering me on wholeheartedly.

The team was so supportive of me, and each other.

It didn’t take very many games before we were more than a team; we were a family.

I understand that the fear of being judged and looking foolish is what you feel when you think about joining a new fitness class. Let me tell you, you won’t have to feel that at Achieving Motion.

The supportive community feel of my softball team is what I plan to emulate with my new studio space.

I’m building a powerful community where only kindness, encouragement and positivity are tolerated. A place where you feel excited and comfortable to come to improve your health.

I am so incredibly proud to get to this place in my journey and I would be honoured if you came to the grand opening to experience it for yourself.
