Hello lovely! My name is Leah Lòpez and I am the intuitive and creative behind Illuminate, a local Saskatchewan business dedicated to offering empowering self-love practices including Ayurvedic Alchemy, Energy Empowerment, Restorative Reiki and Light Frequency, Symbolic Sound, Crystal Consciousness and Bountiful Breathwork as well as handcrafted jewelry and adornments. Ayurveda is an ancient tradition originating in India. Translated, it means "the science of life" and emphasizes the connections between the body, mind, and spirit. Ayurveda emphasizes good health and prevention and treatment of illness through simple and intuitive lifestyle practices as well as the use of herbal remedies. Ayurvedic medicine is holistic, which means viewing the body and mind as a whole. Ayurveda not only treats a person's physical complaints, but it also changes lifestyle practices to help maintain or improve health. Having worked with a team of Ayurvedic Doctors and Practitioners in India and successfully removing my ulcerative colitis, I committed to a two year Ayurvedic Practitioner program and have been integrating this wonderful modality into my offerings. I am a Tibetan Usui Reiki Master and Level 3 Karuna Ki student, who enjoys connecting and empowering others on their own journeys. The Reiki practice has been a key support in my own journey towards connection to and love of self and I enjoy helping clients experience this wonderfully balancing energy. I offer Light Energy, an extremely peaceful and harmonious energy modality which supports grounding and connection with self. Light symbol energy offers gentle wisdom to integrate and support you on your Earth journey. By accessing and utilizing this grounding energy, we deepen our connection with our soul’s light which may support you in increasing your self-awareness, clarity, creativity, reduce stress and negative emotions, restore focus and shift perspective. I am excited to share that I have studied several breathwork patterns, including pranayama and Clarity Breathwork, and love connecting your with your breath as a tool to help calm the nervous system. I also offer sound bowl healing which is often incorporated into my Reiki sessions. Crystal Bowl healing uses sound to attune to our human chemistry. As vibrational beings, sound frequencies and vibrations connect and ground our energy. The sounds and vibrations emanating from the crystal singing bowls support a calming and tranquil effect on the body, supporting your relaxation. All of my offerings are influenced by my own journey and the world around me - ancient culture and traditions, Goddess energy, nature, the moon, and the earth at her feet. I find my inspiration in everyday life. I utilize stones and crystals in my Reiki practice wherever possible to combine these healing modalities. I am excited to sit with you and empower you to open to your own wisdom and gifts. To learn more about me message me here or on Instagram .healing

🕯Return of the Light: Honoring the Celtic Solstice🕯️

Today we reach the deepest point of the year, the Winter Solstice. In the ancient Celtic tradition, this is known as Alban Arthan, or "The Light of Arthur." It is the shortest day and the longest night, a sacred threshold where the wheel of the year pauses before beginning its turn back toward the sun. 🌑✨
While it might feel like a time of dormancy, the Celts understood that new life begins in the dark. Just as a seed germinates beneath the soil, our own inner light is nurtured in these quiet, shadowy months.

🌲 Celtic Elements of the Season
In honor of my ancestry and the rhythms of the earth, I’m sharing some Celtic traditions to stay grounded today:

The Evergreen Promise: Bringing holly, ivy, and yew indoors wasn't just decoration; it was a reminder that life persists even in the harshest winter. It symbolizes resilience and the continuity of the soul. 🌿

The Yule Log: Traditionally, a piece of oak was burned to give strength to the "New Sun." Today, light a candle to symbolize that same internal spark, the warmth we carry when the world feels cold. 🔥

The Spirit of Mistletoe: To the Druids, mistletoe was "Healer of All." It represents the bridge between the earth and the heavens. It’s a beautiful reminder to stay connected to our higher selves even when we are deeply rooted in the physical.

✨ Finding Your Center in the Stillness

In a world that constantly asks us to "do" and "produce," the Solstice gives us permission to simply be. In both my Ayurveda and TCM studies, this is the peak of Yin—the ultimate time for rest, internal reflection, and deep nourishment. If you are feeling "scattered" (that Vata energy!), use this longest night to ground yourself. Sit in the dark for a moment, breathe into your belly, and recognize that the light isn't gone—it’s just resting.
Tomorrow, the days begin to lengthen. But for tonight, let’s honor the dark. 🌑🙏

🥣 Liquid Gold: The Healing Power of Dhaniya Rasam
This time of year when you're feeling run down, congested, or your digestion has hit a "sluggish" phase, let me introduce you to one of my all-time favorite Ayurvedic staples: Rasam. 🌟
Specifically, Coriander (Dhaniya) Rasam. Unlike heavier soups, this thin, spicy, and tangy broth is designed to "kindle" your digestive fire (Agni) without weighing you down.

🌿 A Healing Powerhouse:
In Ayurveda, we use Rasam as a household remedy for everything from the common cold to indigestion. Here’s why it works:
✨Ignites Agni: The combination of black pepper, cumin, and ginger acts like a spark for your digestion, helping to clear out Ama (toxins).
✨Coriander: Coriander seeds are cooling yet digestive-enhancing, making this specific version perfect for balancing internal heat while still moving stagnant energy.
✨Tamarind & Mishri: The sourness of tamarind and the subtle sweetness of mishri create a perfect " Rasa" (taste) balance that restores lost appetite and grounds the nervous system.

✨ How to Make My Go-To Rasam
This version is light, tomato-free, and incredibly easy to whip up:
🍲The Spice Base: Dry roast 1.5 tbsp coriander seeds, ½ tbsp cumin, ½ tsp black peppercorns, and a dried red chili until aromatic. Cool and grind into a fine powder.
🍲The Infusion: Soak a small piece of tamarind in warm water and squeeze out the juice.
🍲The Tempering: Heat a little ghee or oil in a pot. Add mustard seeds, cumin, and a pinch of hing (asafoetida). Once they splutter, add fresh curry leaves and crushed garlic.
🍲The Simmer: Stir in your freshly ground spice powder, then pour in 3 cups of water and your tamarind juice. Add a pinch of turmeric, salt, and a bit of jaggery.
🍲Finish: Let it come to a gentle boil for 5 minutes. Toss in a generous handful of fresh coriander leaves (stalks too!) and turn off the heat.

Pro-Tip: Sip it warm like a savory tea, or pour it over soft, mushy rice with a little extra ghee for the ultimate "hug in a bowl." 🥣✨

Have you ever tried Rasam? It’s the perfect ritual for a "reset" day! Let me know in the comments! 👇

🎶 Sound as Medicine: How Vibration Heals the Mind-Body
We often focus on what we eat or how we move, but have you ever considered the powerful, positive impact of sound and vibration on your wellbeing? Both Ayurveda and TCM view sound as a therapeutic tool capable of rebalancing the body's energy.
Here's why tuning into intentional sound is essential for holistic health:

🌿 The Ayurvedic Perspective: Resonance & the Elements

🔊In Ayurveda, sound is intrinsically linked to the element of Ether (Akasha). Sound therapy works by creating resonance that affects the flow of energy (Prana) through the subtle channels (Nadis).
🔊Calming Vata: Intentional sounds (like chanting or deep humming) are profoundly grounding, highly effective for calming elevated Vata dosha, reducing anxiety, scattered thoughts, and insomnia.
🔊Vibrational Healing: Specific sounds and mantras create vibrations that pe*****te deep into the tissues, breaking up stagnation (Ama) and harmonize the chakras (energy centers), promoting overall clarity and stability.

☯️ The TCM Perspective: Toning the Organs & Moving Qi

🔊TCM views sound as a vibration that directly influences the organ systems and movement of Qi (life force energy) through the meridians.
🔊Toning the Organs: Specific vocal sounds are used to "tone" or "clear" excess or deficiency in the five major organ systems, which helps move stagnant Qi and restore balance.
🔊Emotional Release: Sound allows for the non-verbal expression and release of pent-up emotions. By moving suck energy in an organ system, you facilitate emotional and physical healing.
🔊Grounding Effect: Intentional sound acts as a steady rhythm, pulling your energy down and inward, anchoring you in the present moment

🎧 ~ Try integrating sound therapy into your day:
✨Humming/Chanting: Use simple vocalizations (like the Bhramari breath) or mantras to create internal vibration.
✨Tuning In: Sit quietly and focus on natural sounds (like wind or rain) to quiet the internal noise.

✨Experience Deep Resonance: I'm hosting a Sound Bowls Offering on Sunday, December 7th from 1:30–2:30 PM. Join us and experience the power of sound for yourself!

🌿🔴Pomegranate in Ayurveda: A Treasure For All 🔴🌿

My Ayurvedic Doctor encouraged me to eat them daily - here’s why: 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

✨In Ayurveda, pomegranates (Dadima) are revered for their unique ability to balance all three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
✍🏻Translated: they are beneficial for everyone!!

👄Taste (Rasa): Primarily sweet, astringent, and slightly sour.
🌀Energy (Virya): Cooling.
⌛Post-digestive effect (Vipaka): Sweet.

Benefits include:
✨Digestive Aid: They help stimulate digestion (agni), reduce indigestion, and can be helpful for those with IBS due to their astringent qualities.
✨Heart Health: Excellent for the heart, strengthening cardiac muscles.
✨Blood Building: A natural blood purifier and tonic, helping to improve hemoglobin.

Pomegranate in TCM: Cooling & Nourishing ☯️

In TCM, pomegranates are often used to address imbalances.

Thermal Nature: Cooling.
👄Taste: Sweet and sour.
⚡️Organ Meridians: Enters the Stomach, Large Intestine, and Kidney channels.

Benefits include:
✨Quenches Thirst: Clears heat and generates fluids, ideal for thirst and dry mouth, especially in hot climates.
✨Astringent Properties: Aids with diarrhea.
✨Supports Digestive Health: Aids in digestion.
✨Overall Nourishment: Rich in antioxidants, supporting overall vitality.

⚡️⚡️Forget the watery mess! This prep method makes enjoying fresh pomegranate a breeze. 👇🏼📍👇🏼

📍Score the Skin: Carefully make 4-5 vertical shallow slices through the skin, from top to bottom. Think of them as vertical lines evenly spaced around the fruit.

📍Connect the Dots (Bottom): Now, make shallow cuts around the bottom connecting the ends of your vertical slices, creating a hexagon shape on the bottom.

📍Pop and Peel: Gently peel off the bottom hexagon. Using your fingers, gently pry open along the scored lines.

📍Release the Jewels: Use your fingernails to easily slide the vibrant, juice-filled seeds away from the white membrane into a bowl. Voila!

⚡️From easy seeding to ancient healing, the pomegranate truly is a superfruit! How do you love to enjoy yours? Let me know below! 👇

🥗 Eat Happy, Feel Good: The Power of Food & Mindset

Did you know that what you think while you eat is almost as important as what you eat? In both ancient wisdom traditions, focusing on enjoyment and positivity is a crucial ingredient for good digestion and overall health!

Let's look at why cultivating a joyful mindset around your food is essential, according to Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM):

💖 The Ayurvedic Perspective: Digesting Emotions

In Ayurveda, our digestive fire (Agni) processes food and emotions.
🧠Positive Mindset = Stronger Digestion (Agni): When you eat with joy and a relaxed mind, your Agni burns brightly, allowing for optimal nutrient absorption.
🦥The Power of Slow Eating: When we eat slowly and mindfully, we strengthen our digestion and reduce the risks of gas and bloating that can occur when we eat while stressed or rushed. This practice helps keep the Vata dosha balanced.

☯️ The TCM Perspective: The Spleen & Stomach Harmony

TCM connects the Spleen and Stomach to the Earth element, responsible for transforming food energy (Qi).
🧠Mindful Eating Protects the Spleen: The Spleen is linked to worry. When we eat in a stressed or anxious manner, we risk weakening the Spleen, potentially causing weakened digestion, dampness, and fatigue to arise. Mindful eating reduces these risks.
🍲Enjoyment Aids Assimilation: Approaching your meal with pleasure signals calm, allowing the Spleen and Stomach to work harmoniously and extract the most energy from your food.

🍽️ Practice Presence at Your Plate

Your takeaway is simple: Enjoy your food! Every time you sit down to eat, take a moment to:
✨ Express Gratitude: Acknowledge the nourishment in front of you.
🧘‍♀️ Breathe: Take three deep breaths to transition from activity to stillness.
🚫 Unplug: Put away the phone, turn off the TV, and focus on the smells, textures, and tastes.
When we combine intentional, nourishing food with a positive, peaceful mind, we unlock true vitality.

💖 The Power of Presence: Unplugging to Connect💖

In the world of wellness and social media, it's easy to feel the constant pull to post, share, and stay "on." But one of the most important aspects of my own wellbeing journey, and a core message I wanted to quickly jump on and share, is the profound importance and positive benefits of being truly present.

When we put down our phones and step away from the digital noise, we create space for deeper connection, clarity, and peace. For me, that often means taking short breaks from social media and talking about wellness so I can fully step into my role as a partner and, especially this week, as a Mom.

I've been a little quiet on here the last couple of days because my husband is away, and I chose to be fully present with my girls. I consciously traded screen time for connection, focusing my attention entirely on their giggles, their stories, and just being with them. Those moments of being truly present are precious—they fuel our bond and fill my own cup much more than any notification ever could.

🧘‍♀️ A Quick Practice for Presence
Want to try bringing yourself into the moment right now?

Engage your five senses wherever you are:
👁️ Sight: Notice three things you can see (the color of the sky, a detail on a nearby object).

👂 Sound: Notice three things you can hear (a distant voice, the hum of the fridge, your own breath).

✋ Touch: Notice three things you can feel (the texture of your clothing, the chair beneath you, the air on your skin).

👃 Smell: Take a deep breath and notice one distinct scent.

👅 Taste: Notice the lingering taste in your mouth.
Taking even a moment to ground yourself like this can be a beautiful reset.

Try this simple practice out and let me know what you think👇🏼

What's one small thing you can step away from today to be more present in your own life? Share it in the comments! 👇🏼

🌈 Fuel Your Mind with the Power of Color!

Did you know your eyes are the first to taste your food? 🍎🥦🥕

The more colors on your plate, the more appealing the meal is to your senses—and what appeals to the senses appeals to the mind! It’s all part of the powerful mind-body connection that turns a simple meal into a satisfying, mindful experience.
When you , you're not just making your plate pretty; you're also instinctively signaling to your brain that this meal is fresh, diverse, and full of goodness. Each color often represents a different set of vitamins and nutrients!

👁️Appetite and Perception: Our eyes are the first sense engaged when we eat. Research shows that color influences our perception of taste, flavor, and even quality. Vibrant, naturally colorful foods (like a mix of fruits and vegetables) are instinctively associated with freshness, ripeness, and a wider array of nutrients.

🧠Mindful Engagement: In the practice of mindful eating, engaging all your senses—including sight, smell, and texture—is key to a richer, more satisfying experience. When a plate is visually beautiful, it naturally encourages you to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate the meal, which enhances your enjoyment and can even aid in digestion.

🏳️‍🌈🍲The "Eat the Rainbow" Principle: From a nutritional standpoint, incorporating a variety of colors often means you are consuming a diverse range of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants (phytochemicals), as different colors in nature are often tied to different health benefits.

👉🏼Pro-Tip for Mindful Meals: Take a moment before you dig in. Really look at your food—notice the vibrant greens, the rich reds, the sunny yellows. Engaging your sight helps you slow down, appreciate the moment, and get more satisfaction from every single bite.

What colors are on your plate today? Share in the comments! 👇
