✨ LET’S TALK TUESDAY ✨
This morning after my yoga class someone said:
“Oh that class is more just for relaxing.”
And it stuck with me.
Because somewhere along the way we started believing that if something feels good or calming, it must not be doing much.
But here’s the truth:
Relaxation is not weakness. It’s physiology.
Chronic stress is strongly linked to heart disease, stroke, immune dysfunction, anxiety, chronic pain, and burnout.
Research shows chronic stress can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease by up to 40%.
Let that sink in.
Stress literally changes your hormones, your breathing, your blood pressure, your digestion, and the way your muscles hold tension.
And every single day in the clinic I hear people say:
“I haven’t even stopped to think about how my body feels today.”
That’s exactly what practices like yoga change.
Yes — there is strength.
Yes — there is balance.
Yes — there is mobility and stretching.
But the real work happening?
• Your nervous system slows down
• Your breathing deepens
• Your muscles release protective tension
• Your mind actually checks in with your body
And that is preventative health care.
I’ll be honest — in my 20s I used to think the same way.
Push harder. Lift heavier. Stretching is optional.
It took several injuries for me to learn that the part most people want to skip — the slowing down, the breathing, the stretching — is actually the part that keeps your body working long term.
Working hard is great.
But a body that never downshifts eventually breaks down.
Relaxation isn’t “just relaxing.”
It’s recovery.
It’s regulation.
It’s longevity.
And in a world that glorifies burnout…
learning to slow down might be one of the strongest things you can do.
