Free Fitness Follow along as I share the daily ways I move my body including free YouTube video workouts. Yoga has so many benefits, not just physical. Set your intention.

Hi my name is Joanna and I am a Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga instructor. About 20 years ago I was suffering from anxiety, panic and insomnia. I tried everything to get these things under control, but nothing worked. My Mom brought me to my first yoga class as she thought that might help. Well, let me just say, that was 20 years ago and I have never looked back. Yoga is now my swiss-army-knife cure-all, not just the asana physical practice, but the practice of breathing and meditation as well. I tell my family and friends all the time, that I don't just LOVE yoga, I NEED it. I am here to guide you through YOUR practice. What do you want out of this class? How do you want to feel when it's over? If you want a workout ~ we can do that. If you want a slow, gentle guided practice with a long meditative savasana ~ we can do that. If you just want to stretch out some sore and stiff muscles ~ let's go! Every BODY can do yoga. There are modifications and variations for all poses and any practice can be modified for all abilities. I am here to share my love of Yoga with you. Yoga has helped me so much and now I just want to help others. I want to prevent the suffering for others that I experienced before I attended my first yoga class. Come join me on your mat. I'd love to meet you

Just when I think I'm in pretty good shape, I go back to this step video and realize that I am not!

It just reiterates for me that you will get good at what you practice the most.

I have been spending most of my "workout" time doing strength training lately, and yes, I am getting stronger and lifting heavier weights; however, I do not find that it transfers to other activities.

I used to be able to do this squat session no problem. You would think doing weighted squats would make my legs stronger and more capable of holding squats and pulses for a long time, but no. I struggled with this and didn't used to.

In my 20's, I used to do step classes, and I loved them. I took dance lessons from the time I was 5 years old until I was 18. I love the choreography, call-outs and moving to the music.

I took some time off from step classes during my pregnancies, but the first class back, as soon as the music started, I got a huge smile on my face.
My sister and I did these classes together, and we actually can't look at each other when we are in the same class, because we are both grinning from ear to ear. It feels so good to be back.

Now I know the "data" says cardio is bad for perimenopausal women and they should focus on building muscle and bone with strength training, and I do that too, but I miss this.

I love that my body is covered in sweat when I'm done.
I love that I feel exhausted, without feeling sore.
The music and dancing increase my serotonin and dopamine levels.
Today it feels like -37 out, so this was a great exercise to warm up.

This is me.
You do you.
Movement is the goal.
Find something you love and do more of that.

Most people spend their entire lives looking for meaning in the wrong places. They chase careers they don’t care about. They invest in relationships that drain them. They optimize their lives for outcomes that don’t actually matter. And somewhere in all of that grinding, they lose touch with the one thing that makes them feel alive.

You know the feeling I’m talking about. It’s that moment when you’re doing something and time disappears. When you’re so fully present that the anxiety in your chest quiets down. When you’re not proving anything, you’re just being exactly who you are, without a second thought.

For some people, it’s creating: writing, painting, building, making something from nothing. For others, it’s moving: running, dancing, hiking, letting their body speak what their mind can’t. For some, it’s being in nature. For others, it’s a deep conversation with someone they trust. It might be cooking, reading, gardening, playing an instrument, or sitting in silence.

The specifics don’t matter. What matters is that you find it. And once you do, you protect it like your life depends on it. Because it does.

Most people find that thing, feel that aliveness, and then they apologize for it. They squeeze it into the margins of their “real life.” They tell themselves it’s selfish or impractical or not important enough. So they abandon it. They go back to the grind. And slowly, they get so numb they forget what it feels like to feel alive altogether.

Don’t do that.

Whatever pulls you into the present moment, whatever makes you feel like your most authentic self, is not a waste of time. It’s your nervous system telling you what you actually need.

Find it. Make space for it. Not as a reward for being productive, but as something you deserve. Something you return to again and again because it reminds you who you actually are when you’re not trying to be anything else.

The world will always ask you to be someone else. But there’s one special thing that asks you to be yourself.

Find it. Cherish it. That’s everything.
