GH2O SUP Adventures

GH2O SUP Adventures No longer providing Intro to SUP clinics but happy to share local knowledge and information on interesting places to paddle here on the Sunshine Coast.

Thanks to all who I have paddled with over the years. Hope to see some of you on the water! *** UPDATE ON GH2O SUP ADVENTURES***

After providing "Intro to SUP" clinics and private tours for the past six years, this page will now be primarily information and photos on places paddled. I highly recommend if you are new to Stand Up Paddleboarding, to seek out a Paddle Canada Intro course , or at least learn some basic skills. It is important to always wear a pfd , attach your leash, pay attention to the weather and the tides. I like to steal the old Lottery commercial line of "Know your limit, play within it"

"Intro to Stand-up Paddle Boarding" clinics focus on basic stand-up paddle boarding skills that run about 1.5-2 hours. Usually take about 15-20 minutes on land, discussing the sport and the gear.

-Types of Stand up Paddle boards
-PFD's
-Clothing
-Safety
-Paddles
-Paddling strokes
-Entering and exiting the water.
-How to get on
-Standing up
-Falling off safely
-Weather and sea conditions

Most courses are about 1.5-2hrs. Some History:
As an adventure kayaker in my youth, a sailor who has explored many areas of our of our coast, and now an avid Stand-Up Paddle Board enthusiast for the past 14 years. In the spring of 2016 a became a Registered Basic and Advanced Stand-Up Paddle Board Instructor with Paddle Canada. I had the privilege of taking this course with Norm Hann of Norm Hann Expeditions. Along with over 45 years experience of being on the water in many capacities, I have acquired other certifications along the way. These are:

-Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
-Marine Emergency Duties (MED-3)
-Marine First Aid
-Restricted Operators Certificate (Marine Radio)
-Canadian Power Squadron
-Basic Boating
-Piloting
-Weather

I really enjoy being out on the water and sharing experiences with this awesome sport. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding boards, gear, places to paddle etc. Hopefully I can help you enhance your paddle boarding experience . My experiences shared here are just that. Experiences. Conditions on the water are constantly changing and it is up to each individual to pay attention and know their limitations. Geordie

Cheers, Geordie

Our Story

As an adventure kayaker in my youth, a sailor who has explored many areas of our coast, and now an avid Stand-Up Paddle Board enthusiast, I thought the timing was right to offer a service that would help those interested in trying Stand-up Paddle Boarding, to get out on the water and learn some basic skills. In the spring of 2016 a became a Certified Basic and Advanced Stand-Up Paddle Board Instructor with Paddle Canada. I had the privilege of taking this course with Norm Hann of Norm Hann Expeditions.

Along with over 45 years experience of being on the water in many capacities, I have acquired other certifications along the way.

These are: -Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) -Marine Emergency Duties (MED-3) -Marine First Aid -Restricted Operators Certificate (Marine Radio) -Canadian Power Squadron -Basic Boating -Piloting -Weather. With "Intro to Stand-up Paddle Boarding" we focus on basic stand-up paddle boarding skills. We take about 15-20 minutes on land, discussing the sport and the gear.

Topics are: -Types of Stand up Paddleboards,. -PFD's, -Clothing -Safety, -Paddles -Paddling strokes -Entering and exiting the water. -How to get on, -Standing up, -Falling off safely -Weather and sea conditions. -Having Fun! After this period we get on the water and practice some basic skills for approximately an hour and a half. Those who are comfortable, can paddle on their own for the last half hour or so in close proximity and I will spend time with those who may need more assistance. If you need to rent gear, I can provide you with various options to get you set up. If you have gear, have paddled a bit, and would like some instruction ,we can set that up.
