Being kind and supportive to others is important,
but not when it constantly comes at the expense of your own well-being.✅

Many people say yes out of guilt, fear, pressure, or the need to please everyone.

They give their time, energy, attention, and peace away so often
that they slowly begin neglecting themselves.

But every time you say yes to something,
you are also saying no to something else.

Sometimes that “no” becomes your rest.
Your peace of mind.
Your personal goals.
Your boundaries.
Your mental health.

That is why balance matters.

Helping others should not require abandoning yourself.

You are allowed to set limits.
You are allowed to protect your time.
You are allowed to choose yourself without feeling selfish.

Because constantly sacrificing your own needs
to keep everyone else comfortable can eventually leave you emotionally exhausted and resentful.

A healthy life includes compassion for others
and respect for yourself.

“When you say ‘Yes’ to others, make sure you are not saying ‘No’ to yourself.”

Most people don’t burn out because they’re incapable.

They burn out because they never feel finished.

There’s always one more thing you could do..

One more email. One more task. One more way to be better.

And over time, “I could do more” quietly turns into

“I should be doing more.”

That’s where the pressure builds.

Not from what’s actually required of you..

but from the constant belief that what you’ve done isn’t quite enough yet.

But here’s something worth sitting with..

Capacity isn’t the same as responsibility.

Just because you can push harder doesn’t mean it’s sustainable..

or necessary..

or even helpful.

There are seasons where growth looks like doing more.

And there are seasons where growth looks like knowing when to stop.

To pause without guilt..

To leave something unfinished on purpose..

To recognize that your worth was never meant to be measured by how much you can carry.

If you’ve been feeling that quiet pressure lately..

you don’t have to keep carrying it alone.

I’m Amanda, and I currently have openings to support you in slowing things down, making sense of what’s weighing on you, and finding a pace that actually feels sustainable.

I offer direct billing for most major insurance providers, with sessions available both in-person and online.

If you’re ready to start feeling more grounded and less overwhelmed, you can book a time that works for you. tap the link to my website here www.amandayoungcounselling.com

We're all laughing at the Easter Bunny on the therapy couch.

But honestly?

How many of us belong right there next to him.

The people who give the most are usually hurting the most quietly.

I learned that firsthand.

Young mom. Full-time job. University at the same time.

Giving everything to everyone and wondering why I was running on fumes.

Nobody tells you that you can't keep pouring from an empty cup.

You just find out the hard way.

And a lot of people are finding that out right now.

Sitting at the Easter table. Smiling. Passing the ham.

Feeling completely alone inside.

If that's you, here's what I want you to know.

The answers you're looking for?

They're already inside you.

My job is just to help you find them.

I'm Amanda, a Licensed Counselling Therapist based in Saint John, NB.

I work with people 13+ navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction.

And yes, I take humour seriously as part of the process. 🐰

I direct bill most major insurance providers so there's zero paperwork stress on your end.

Sometimes it’s not the big moments that shape us most.

It’s the quiet ones.

The times you felt unseen. The times your feelings were dismissed. The moments you learned to stay small just to keep the peace. ❤️

You grow up, life moves on… but something still feels off.

You overthink what you said. You question how others feel about you. You try to be everything for everyone, yet still feel like it’s not enough.

This isn’t random.

It’s what happens when your nervous system learned early on that safety meant adapting, pleasing, or staying guarded.

Those patterns were protective once. They helped you get through.

But now, they might be the very thing holding you back.

Keeping you stuck in cycles that feel familiar… even when they hurt.

There is nothing wrong with you..

There is something that happened to you. 🕊️

And the good news is, what was learned can be gently unlearned.

With the right support, you can begin to understand your patterns instead of fighting them.

You can start to feel safe in ways you never have before.

You can build relationships that don’t require you to lose yourself.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone new.

It’s about finally feeling like yourself. 🌱

If you’re ready to explore that, you don’t have to do it alone.

I offer direct billing to most major insurance providers, so you can focus on your well-being without the added stress of paperwork.

Therapy isn’t just for when everything falls apart.

A lot of us grow up believing we only reach out for help when life is overwhelming, when we’ve hit a breaking point, or when we feel like we can’t handle it anymore.

But that’s not what therapy is for.

Many people come to therapy not because something is broken, but because they want to understand themselves more deeply. They want to improve their relationships. They want to manage stress before it builds into something unmanageable. They want to grow into a version of themselves that feels grounded, capable, and aligned with who they truly are.

Therapy isn’t just about surviving hard moments. It’s about intentionally creating a life that feels better, more manageable, and more yours.

You don’t have to wait until things feel “bad enough” to deserve support. If it’s on your mind, that’s already reason enough.

I work with teens and adults in Saint John, NB, and online, helping you find clarity, build confidence, and develop tools that actually make a difference in your everyday life.

Sometimes anxiety shows up without warning..

No clear trigger.
No obvious reason.
Just a tight chest, racing thoughts, and that feeling like something isn’t right.

When that happens, your goal isn’t to “fix everything.” It’s to regulate your body first.

Here are three simple ways to do that..

1. Cold Reset
Splash cold water on your face or hold something cold in your hands. This can quickly interrupt the stress response and bring you back into your body

2. Name What’s Happening
Say it clearly to yourself: “This is anxiety.”
Not danger. Not truth. Just anxiety. Naming it helps reduce its power

3. Slow One Thing Down
Pick one small action and do it slowly.. drink water, walk, or even just breathe. Slowing your body helps slow your mind

Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but it’s not permanent.
It passes.
And you can learn how to move through it.

If anxiety is something you deal with often, you don’t have to manage it alone.

I work with teens and adults in Saint John, NB, and online, helping you build real tools to feel more in control.

Most people think trauma is just a bad memory you need to get over.

It's not.

Trauma is what happens to your nervous system when something was too much, too fast, or too soon for your body to process.

And your body remembers.

It remembers in the way you flinch at a certain tone of voice.

In the way your chest tightens before you even know why.

In the way you can't relax, even when you're finally safe.

That's not weakness.

That's a nervous system that learned to survive.

When we experience trauma, our brain shifts into protection mode.

The part responsible for logic and language goes quiet.

The part responsible for survival takes over.

This is why you can't just "think your way through it."

You can't logic your way out of something your body is holding onto.

Healing from trauma isn't about forgetting what happened.

It's about helping your nervous system learn that the danger has passed.

That it's okay to come down now.

That you are safe.

If your body has been in survival mode for as long as you can remember, I want you to know something.

You are not broken.

You adapted.

And with the right support, you can heal.

If this resonates, save it. Share it with someone who needs to hear it.

And if you're ready to start that work, I'd love to be part of it.
Sessions are available in-person in Saint John and virtually across Canada. Direct billing available for most major insurance providers.

Sometimes life feels… noisy.

Thoughts jumble together.
Decisions feel heavier than they should.
Even small tasks can feel exhausting. 🌿

You don’t have to manage it all alone.

A clearer mind starts with one conversation.

Maybe you’ve been trying to sort everything out by yourself.
Maybe you’ve been putting your own needs last.
Maybe you just need space to pause, reflect, and feel understood.

You deserve that space. You deserve support. 💛

I’m Amanda, and I currently have openings to help you regain clarity and calm.

I offer direct billing for most major insurance providers, and sessions are available in-person or online.

If you’re ready to start untangling your thoughts and finding clarity, you can book a time that works for you @ www.amandayoungcounselling.com

Or, if you want to ask a question before booking, feel free to reach out. I’m here to help you take that first step.

What does emotional regulation actually mean?

It’s one of those phrases that sounds important…
but also a little confusing.

Let me share a moment I see often..

Someone walks into my office and says something like:

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I just get overwhelmed so easily.”

Maybe it happened earlier that week.

They were having a normal day.
Then a stressful email arrived.
Or an argument started with their partner.
Or their child had a meltdown.

And suddenly their chest felt tight.

Their thoughts started racing.

They snapped at someone they care about…
or shut down completely.

Later that night they’re lying in bed thinking,

“Why did I react like that?”

“Why can’t I just handle things better?”

Here’s the important part most people don’t realize.

Emotional regulation is not about controlling your feelings.

It’s not about staying calm all the time.
It’s not about never getting angry, anxious, sad, or overwhelmed.

It’s about learning how to experience emotions without being swept away by them.

It’s the ability to pause for a moment and notice:

“I’m feeling really frustrated right now.”

Instead of reacting instantly.

It’s giving yourself just enough space to choose how you respond.

Sometimes emotional regulation looks like:

Taking a slow breath before replying to a text.
Stepping outside for a minute when things feel too intense.
Recognizing that you’re overwhelmed and giving yourself permission to slow down.

Small moments like that can change everything.

And the truth is…

Most people were never taught how to do this.

Not in school.
Not at home.
Not anywhere.

So if this is something you struggle with, please know..

You’re not broken.

You’re human.

And emotional regulation is a skill that can be learned with patience, support, and practice.

If you’ve ever wondered whether therapy might help with things like stress, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed…

You’re not alone.

And you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.
