We love this quote. There is so much shame and fear around being “lazy.” But there’s so much more to the story when we go deeper.

Executive dysfunction. Overwhelm. Perfectionism. Trauma. Depression. Chronic pain. A nervous system that’s been running on empty for too long.

When we stop labelling and start getting curious, we usually find someone who’s struggling with something, not someone choosing to do nothing.

If you’re finding it hard to move through the things you want to do, that’s worth exploring.

Therapist credentials matter.

When you’re looking for a therapist, it’s okay to ask questions.

Here are three things worth checking in on:
🎓 What’s their education?
👥 Do they receive clinical supervision?
📋 Have they had formal clinical training?

These aren’t rude questions. A good therapist will welcome them. You deserve to know that the person you’re trusting with your inner world has done the work to be there.

At Branches, all of our therapists have a Masters degree, receive monthly individual and group supervision, and are required to take clinical training every year.

Ever had a moment when someone you love is going through something awful — and you just don’t know what to say or do? You’re not alone.

This book is a warm, honest, and even funny guide to showing up for the people in your life when it matters most. This book can help you move past the fear of saying “the wrong thing” and toward real, meaningful connection — whether someone is grieving, facing illness, or navigating any sort of difficult situation.

We love practical books that show us how to put empathy in action in day to day life💚

The burnout you see in social workers, nurses, teachers, frontline workers, etc. isn’t a character flaw. It’s what happens when compassionate people work inside broken systems for too long.

Here’s how it actually unfolds:
It starts with moral injury — being forced to act against your own values day after day. You know a family needs real support but all you can offer is a six-month waitlist.

Then learned helplessness sets in. You raised concerns. Nothing changed. So you stopped trying.

Impossible caseloads force you to triage in ways that feel like betrayal. The meaningful work that drew you to the profession becomes impossible.

Metrics replace mission. The system measures forms completed, not lives changed.

Secondary trauma goes unaddressed because the system treats emotional processing as a luxury.

The cruelest part? The people most susceptible to this are the ones who cared the most to begin with.

If burnout has left you feeling exhausted, disconnected, or wondering where the version of you that loved this work went — our counsellor Sarrah gets it. She’s worked in high-demand nonprofit environments herself and knows firsthand what these systems ask of the people inside them. She’s here to help you process, recover, and find your way back to yourself.

Hi, I’m Taylor 👋

I’m the Director of Operations at Branches Counselling and the person behind the emails, phone calls, and front desk hellos.

Trying somewhere new can feel intimidating, especially when it comes to counselling. I’m here to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible, whether that’s answering insurance questions, helping you find the right counsellor, or just being a calm and friendly presence to talk to on the phone.

If you’ve ever called or walked through our door, there’s a good chance we’ve already met. I’m here to help make the experience a little lighter in any way I can.

This is our space. A place where honest, hard, healing conversations happen.

A place where our therapists meet you where you’re at.

A place where you can speak the things that have been sitting heavy on your heart.

A place where you can slow down long enough to understand yourself a little more clearly.

A place where the messy, complicated parts of being human are welcomed.

Welcome here💚

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and care women bring into their families, workplaces, and communities.

But many women are quietly carrying a lot behind the scenes — responsibilities, expectations, emotional labour, and the pressure to keep everything running.

Being capable doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy.
Holding everything together can take a real toll.

Today can also be a reminder to check in — with yourself and with the women in your life. 💚
