Huge news today for Massage Therapists in Saskatchewan!!! 🎉 😁 Thank you Massage Therapist Association of Saskatchewan for the decades of hard work.
The Government of Saskatchewan formally introduced legislation today to regulate massage therapists across the province.
The Massage Therapist Association of Saskatchewan (MTAS) has advocated for this legislation since 1995 and was pleased to see this historic step forward.
"This is indeed a momentous day for the public and the professionals providing therapeutic care in the province.” said Camille Lapierre, President of MTAS. “We are grateful to begin the work to establish professional standards, greater accountability and transparency for the public and title protection for Saskatchewan massage therapists."
The legislation is intended to establish a Saskatchewan College of Massage Therapy, a stand-alone regulatory body that will work to protect the public through licensing, consistent professional standards, education, and a code of ethics.
The public can be confident that only massage therapists who are highly trained, professionally certified and in good standing with the regulated authority can call themselves a Registered Massage Therapist and use the protected title of Registered Massage Therapist (RMT).
The professional RMT will also have labour mobility across Canada, title protection and will be accountable to the College for their professional behaviour, which includes demonstrating continuing competency and acting in their patients' best interests.
Saskatchewan will be joining five other provinces to promote consistency and excellence in massage therapy across Canada under a regulatory body.
We did it! Legislation was introduced today by the Saskatchewan Government to regulate massage therapy in our province!
MTAS has been advocating for legislation to protect the integrity of our industry and the public since 1995!
Saskatchewan will be joining five other provinces as a member of the Federation of Massage Therapy Regulatory Authorities of Canada to promote consistency and excellence in massage therapy across Canada.
There is still a ways to go as we consult on the specific regulations and processes.
But the news is an historic step forward and exciting news for members and the entire public!
More to come :).
