Today, I pause with a full heart. ❤️
Remembrance Day has always held deep meaning for me — not just as a day of silence, but as a day of gratitude. Gratitude for the freedom we have, and for the unimaginable sacrifices that made it possible.
A couple of years ago, my cousin Brad and I sat down with my grandmother — she was 101 at the time — and we interviewed her about her experiences during the war. She worked in a factory through both wars, making weapon clips for the scopes that would be sent overseas. Her hands, her dedication, her quiet strength were part of something much greater than herself.
My grandfather, on the other hand, was right in the middle of the battles — facing the unthinkable so that generations after him could live in peace.
Hearing their stories reminded me that war isn’t just history — it’s human. It’s the families waiting at home, the women holding communities together, the soldiers carrying the weight of courage, fear, and hope all at once.
Today, I honour them — my grandparents, and every person whose life was touched by war. Whether they served on the front lines, worked behind the scenes, or lived through the uncertainty and loss, they all played a part in shaping the world we live in today.
To those who gave their lives, to those who came home forever changed, and to the families who carried the weight of absence and fear — thank you. Your bravery, resilience, and love will never be forgotten.
Lest we forget. ❤️🌺
