February is ❤️Heart Month ❤️

Did you know that 8 in 10 cases of premature heart disease and stroke are preventable?

Here some tips to show a little love to your heart 🥰

❤️Choose Healthy Eating - many older folks find this challenging as they may not have the desire to or be able to cook the way they used to. Try to avoid processed food where possible, and choose options with less sugar and more protein.

❤️Maintain a Healthy Weight - read nutrition labels, watch portion sizes, and measure your waist circumference. You may not be burning as many calories as you did in your youth.

❤️Stay Active - find activities you like and are able to do. Adapt for winter time by walking the mall or doing laps in your home or building.

❤️Mange Stress - identify the stressors in your life. Prioritize physical activity and good sleep. Ask for help around the home when you need it.

❤️Stop Smoking - this is probably the hardest one on the list as there’s a physical and psychological element. The good news is that within 24 hours your chances of a heart attack start to go down. Ask for support and accountability and help managing withdrawal symptoms.

❤️❤️❤️

What a snowy winter we’ve been having! Seriously contemplating adding a snow plow to the front of my car ❄️☃️❄️

Just because a floor plan has a label on a space doesn’t mean you need to use it that way. That spare bedroom can be transformed into a craft room and that den can be transformed into a home gym.

I decided to convert my living room into an office with a comfy conversation area to maximize the space.

Thank you to Matt and Dylan from and Wally for helping me transform my space.

✅Wall mounting a tv and sound bar opens up the floor space eliminating the need for a console
✅Functional storage cabinets blend in with the wall concealing work supplies
✅An outlet for the tv high up on the wall makes a clean look without visible wires
✅Adjustable height coffee table adds versatility with storage underneath
✅Comfy single chairs that can be easily repositioned
✅Soundbar can play ambient music for concentrated focus time/tasks or when relaxing after 5pm

It sounds weird, but we really love organizing paper 📄.

❤️Finding documents for tax filings
❤️Sorting though Aunt Mary's estate
❤️Tackling those random banker's boxes
❤️Separating business from personal
❤️Creating a digital archive
❤️Receipts from the bottom of your purse

The only thing we don't like? The occasional paper cuts 🩹

Did you get a bright yellow envelope in your mail recently? 📫 This for the Vacant Home Tax (VHT) program.

Homeowners in Toronto need to let the City know if their property is occupied or vacant by making a declaration every year.

If you have an older person 👵👴in your life, make sure you check in with them to see if they got this important piece of mail. The declaration can be made online, by phone or at some locations in person.

📆Don’t forget to declare your property’s 2025 occupancy status by April 30, 2026.

See the City of Toronto’s website for complete info.

I just realized something - I accidentally cobbled together the same outfit I would have worn in grade 7, during the 90’s grunge phase.

But…these are not my grade 7 clothes, believe it or not these are newly acquired purchases. The pants are from a thrift store. I didn’t save up my grade 7 wardrobe for the moment it would be back in style.

I’m better off that I didn’t - I didn’t have items stored for 30 years taking up valuable real estate in my closet and the clothes I have now fit better - stretch jeans were not invented yet 👖

Now the only thing I need to complete the look is some rips ✂️in the knees and a wallet chain…⛓️

I don’t have a study to back this up, but from my experience working with many different personalities, those who are creative tend to have the hardest time decluttering.

Creativity can be your super power - you find novelty and utility in things that others don’t. You see beauty and uniqueness in seemingly mundane objects. That toilet paper roll has a million uses beyond just containing tissue 🧻.

But don’t let your super power turn into a super problem and prevent you from letting go of items that no longer benefit you. Sometimes packaging is just packaging and it’s okay to let it go 📦

I urge you to trust your creativity, to allow yourself to pare down the number of items your own and then find a way to fully utilize what you have. Rely on your creativity to find unique solutions even if you don’t have a perfect single use gadget to complete each job. You might even surprise yourself at how little you truly need to live a rich and full life.
