Let's talk about natural dewormers.

Parasites can be a potentially devastating threat to a horse’s health, largely because they are kept in confined spaces where the parasite load can build up to dangerous levels. Parasites have the ability to cause damage as they migrate through the horse’s body; affecting the lungs, the liver, the gastrointestinal tract, and they have been known to compromise a horse’s ability to obtain sufficient nutrients from their feed.

Many commercial dewormers contain fairly toxic chemicals that may have negative side effects on your horses’ body. Natural dewormers have become a popular alternatives to synthetic anthelmintics (chemical dewormers). Herbal products have gentler effects, and even though you may have to administer a natural dewormer for a longer period of time, the outcome of the treatment is better for your horse. Plus, they often include ingredients that support the digestive system, immune function, and overall health, not just parasite control.

Omega Alpha's Para-X is a gentle, broad-spectrum, chemical-free intestinal formulation that eliminates parasites within the horse’s body by creating an uninhabitable host environment.

🐛 An intestinal cleanse that helps to improve normal body functions
🐛 A source of antioxidants and trace elements, thus reducing inflammation
🐛 Creates an unfriendly environment for intestinal parasites to reside
🐛 Improves energy levels and immune health through phytonutrient properties
🐛 Helps relieve digestive disturbances such as gas, bloating, diarrhea and constipation

You can order Para-X on the HET Online Store: https://healthequine-therapies-online-store.square.site/

Now that I have had time to recovery from the Royal (sort of), I thought I would reflect on my time at the most anticipated event of the year!

Working for the duration of the Royal in the Greenhawk booth on behalf of Omega Alpha made for a long and exhausting 10 days. But it was so worthwhile to reunite with fellow equestrians and vendors whom I haven't seen in a while and those who I see more on a regular basis. It was great to catch up with you all!

The 7th Annual HealthEquine Therapies Sky Suite was a great success and everyone seemed to really enjoy the view from above when watching the performances. Thank you to all the local equine companies who donated raffle prizes for my guests:

Centreline Embroidery
greenhawkbeamsville
Limo Horse Cookies
Pleasant Ridge Saddlery and Western Wear
Andrews Equestrian
Omega Alpha - Equine

Here are a few memories from my time at the 103rd Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.

With the fall weather being cold and damp, horses face extra challenges - stiff muscles, slower circulation, wet coat with more risk or poor insulation ability.

Here are the key benefits of using the BEMER Horse blanket and cuffs for your horse and how they relate to Fall conditions:

🩸 Circulation support: In cold weather, circulation to extremities can slow (vasoconstriction) as the body preserves core heat. A device that supports micro-circulation may help maintain blood flow to muscles/legs, which might otherwise become stiff or cold.

💪 Muscle warming and recovery: If your horse is turned out or worked in cold & damp conditions, muscles may take longer to warm up and may remain tighter. The BEMER set could aid warming by stimulating tissue and circulation, helping the horse to loosen. Best of all, horses can warm up substantially faster when using the BEMER.

🦵 Support for joints & limbs: Damp and cold conditions can exacerbate stiffness in joints or legs. The leg cuffs may help by increasing nutrient/oxygen delivery and waste removal in those areas.

🐎 General wellness during turnout or less active times: When a horse is less active or just standing out in damp conditions, the BEMER system may support circulation and regeneration even when the horse isn’t doing heavy work.

🍂 Complement to regular Fall management: Good Fall management like shelter, dry coat, proper hay, water, and turnout is essential. The BEMER system doesn’t replace those but may add another layer of support.

The BEMER horse blanket and cuffs are designed to improve microcirculation and relaxation, which may help horses stay looser and recover faster—potentially useful in cold, damp weather when stiffness and slow circulation are common.

Keep in mind that the BEMER system is not a substitute for veterinary care.

Ground pole exercises are a versatile and effective way to enhance a horse’s fitness, coordination, and mental focus. Because they are low-impact, these exercises tools are suitable for horses of all ages, disciplines, and fitness levels. They can be easily adjusted to meet each horse’s individual needs, offering a fun and engaging addition to any training routine. Ground poles are a staple in many equine training programs, commonly used by both riders and trainers to promote well-rounded development.

As you and your horse navigate ground poles, you should focus on the quality of your horse's gait while they perform the exercise at hand. The ultimate goal is to improve your horse's strength and flexibility so that they can perform better at everything they do.

Ground pole exercises help horses engage their core and lift their back while keeping the actual impact as low as possible. Even just walking through pole exercises is a great way for horses to engage their body as muscles are doing every bit of work with no inertia drastically taking them forward. The poles make horses bend their hocks, increase mobility in their pelvis, and emphasize the use of their core and hind end. They're great for horses who need to build or rebuild strength, especially those who are rehabbing. They build a strong foundation with a good understanding of rhythm, impulsion, straightness, balance, and suppleness.

Setting up your pole exercises before mounting your horse is a safe and practical way to inspect the arena for rocks or debris. It also makes it easier to arrange, move, and measure the poles as needed. Distances are based on an average horse's stride length. If you have a pony, you will likely have to adjust the distances so that they fit their movement more easily.
