The psoas is a deep, central muscle that connects the legs to the spine, traveling from the upper inner thigh through the pelvis and attaching along the lumbar spine and lower rib cage. It plays an essential role in movement, posture, and our ability to fold and sit.

When we spend long periods seated, the body adapts to this shape, often resulting in a chronically shortened psoas. This can show up as discomfort in the hips, low back, or groins as the body works to bring itself upright again.

The psoas is also closely linked to the stress response. In moments of fear, worry, or uncertainty, it naturally tightens to support protective and survival-based patterns. While this is an intelligent response, challenges arise when this tension becomes habitual.

In this series, we use supported SRY postures to unwind chronic holding and create a sense of safety and inner spaciousness. As the psoas softens, many experience greater ease through the spine and hips, improved posture, and a deeper sense of grounding and support from within.

SRY incorporates supported yoga asana (postures) using yoga props and sometimes your hands and arms designed to align the body in a particular way to promote deep muscular release—especially in the pelvis and spine. Creating spaciousness in these regions fosters a greater sense of stability, helping you feel more anchored within.

While this series is also offered online via Zoom, students joining from home will need to have the necessary props available. In-studio students will receive hands-on support from Nicole, and she may step away from the camera at times to provide this assistance. For those new to the practice, Nicole recommends attending in person. All classes are recorded and available for one week after the live session.

If you have been trying to conceive for some time, you are no stranger to feeling overwhelmed with all the fertility wellness advice out there.

And while there are things that can support our reproductive health, it can be overwhelming to sort through what actually serves us best in the moment.

It can be a challenge to be discerning when all we want is to bring home a baby. But as someone who has walked this path, I know trying do to everything perfectly isn’t a sustainable way to live as our fertility challenges drag on longer than we had ever realized.

In this SRY Intuitive Heart series, we will emphasize postures, practices, and contemplations that offer space to align your head (mind) with your heart, fostering a deeper connection to what can best serve your wellbeing as you navigate your path in the upcoming months.

It is such a deeply nourishing practice while TTC.

It can be easy to default to this question when we are in a season that is largely cantered around children but I hope this brings to light how extremely hard it is for many who are struggling to grow their family.

There are so many other interesting things to ask someone that doesn’t have to do with their intentions about having kids. And if they’re struggling to conceive, a conversation about something else in their life could be a welcomed distraction 💚

From our home to yours, wishing you all the sweetness of the season. Merry Christmas🎄

This Winter join Nicole, Christie, and Maria throughout the week for one of our most popular classes, Gentle Yoga! Gentle Yoga classes start up again on Jan 6!

Class starts slowly, warming up the body in preparation for a series of fundamental yoga postures, and ends with postures that promote deep rest and integration.

A typical class starts with floor based postures and movements, transitions to standing postures with the optional support of the wall or chair, and ends once again with floor based postures.

This class is a good fit for students with ongoing conditions that affect mobility or for students who prefer to move at a slower pace. Each teacher brings their own unique teaching style to the class and is suitable for the beginner and continuing practitioner.

Join us in person at Embody Yoga & Wellness, 10 Forbes street in the west end of St. John’s or online from anywhere via Zoom.

New to us? Get started with a Discovery Pass.

Returning? Join with a Membership or one of our pass options, space permitting, including Drop-in, 5-Class, or 10-Class Pass.
