Why do I want to know the why of your symptoms….

I went back to school because I had two sick kids, and no one could tell me the reason why they were born that way. It didn’t make sense to me and I couldn’t imagine them being on medication for life. Amazing the drive we have when it comes to our children - I went back to school and did an honours degree in nutritional science which showed me how the human body worked so that I could understand what might have happened and through getting those answers both of my kids went from being sick babies to now fully healthy functional teenagers.

Finding out the reason why you are struggling with symptoms in the first place is what I do, there are multiple reasons and we get to the bottom of it together so that you can make choices that help you heal!

Going to the gym 3-5 times a week?

Eating a healthy diet?

Still not seeing the results you want?

I challenge you to question what it is you are looking to achieve - what are the results that you’re looking for. Most of my clients say “lose weight” and that’s fair, but I actually think it’s wanting to feel better about themselves, so then when the weight doesn’t come off and you’re doing all the workouts you feel bad about yourself.

So what if we paused, what if we said what are the other things that I have felt since joining the gym and eating well? Do I have more energy? Do I feel more confident? Do I feel happier?

If the answer is yes - then congratulations - thats a win.
If the answer is no - then I truly feel like something underlying is going on for you and that’s when you need individualised nutrition.

In my clinic I find out the root cause of your symptoms (because let’s be honest, weight gain is a symptom) and we figure out how to help you from there.

I don’t feel stressed…. This is one I get all the time.

Most of us are in a state of chronic stress, if you’re not living on a beach with servants bringing your food to you, cleaning your home and running around after your kids you are stressed.

You think you’re not because you’re not about to blow your top, but that’s the top end of the stress level and you know why stress is one of the most detrimental things for your health? Because your body is in fight or flight.

When you are in fight or flight your body sends all of your nutrients to your arms, legs and respiratory system so that you can run away or fight a sabre tooth tiger (I genuinely hope you would be running from that) so if you’re in a state of chronic stress (which we all are) then it’s harder for you to absorb and use nutrients, when your body doesn’t have enough nutrients to function, it starts to break down.

So, I’m going to challenge you to take a break, do some breathing, be present with yourself and understand that you need to have the space from “busy”

I am saying NO to the 5am club trend.

What if I told you that your body needs you to sleep? We are so busy pushing ourselves to be better at getting to the gym that we have forgotten what it’s like to rest. Rest is key for the body to regenerate. We’re so busy thinking that we want to be part of the 5am club that we want to get up early even though we’re not going to bed any earlier. The average person needs 7-9 hours of sleep, so if you’re going to bed at 10:30pm, falling asleep around 11pm, then the earliest you should be getting up is around 6am. If you want to join the 5am club you likely need to be asleep by 10pm at the latest - that means shutting off your screens and starting to wind down by 9pm. I personally cannot do that because I have teens and they are up past 9pm! So the earliest I can get up is 6am, and you know what, I’m ok with that - the reason is that my body is getting enough rest so that I can function and heal and that will make me far more productive in my daylight hours than if I force myself to be up at some ungodly hour!!

I am so sick of hearing this nonsense that we all need to be pushing ourselves harder, when and why did we get to a point that told us we weren’t valuable if we weren’t killing ourselves?

I say no to this trend, I say, take a break, come back to yourself and stop feeling like if you’re not doing it all you must not be good enough. Because you are GOOD enough. JUST AS YOU ARE.

One of my favourite things about my work is standing on a stage and re-educating around nutrition and health.

We have so much misinformation and confusion and it’s a minefield.

When I speak it’s to comfort and inspire, it’s to make you feel like nutrition can be part of your life without feeling like overwhelm.

I take away the pressure because my own journey with nutrition felt like pressure and now I don’t feel like that’s necessary.

I will keep on fighting to make it more understandable and doable so everyone can feel more energised every day.

What do you think is more important?

Sleep? Nutrients? Movement?

I would argue that they are all important, but I would also argue that nutrition is foundational for both sleep and movement!

If you are struggling with sleep you might be nutrient deficient!

If you are struggling with movement you might be nutrient deficient.

An example - complex carbs are an essential cofactor for the production of serotonin which helps you sleep! If you don’t have enough you might struggle to sleep!

If you don’t have enough protein you can’t effectively rebuild muscles after a workout and if you don’t have enough complex carbs you might not even have the energy for the workout in the first place!!

I spent 10 years and $45000 fixing my health and learning how the body works so that you don’t have to.
I was sick, so were my kids, I was frustrated with the medical system and tired of being told that there was nothing I could do other than medicate my children for life. I was told my exhaustion, weight gain, pain and depression were just a “normal part” of being a mother, but my friends all seemed to be doing ok while I disappeared into a pit of despair.

I fought back, I went back to school, I figured it all out and now my kids are medication free and healthy and the autoimmune condition that doctors ignored is under control and unmedicated!!

I live my life pain free, energised and mostly positive! I still have the same challenges as everyone else (a leak in my kitchen ceiling, a nightmare with government forms, a tire popping when i’m trying to get somewhere and a not always easy custody arrangement) but I’m not sick every day anymore and that’s because I got my health under control by getting to the root cause of my symptoms and putting in targeted nutrition and supplements that healed my body!!

Now I help you do the same, my years of training takes away your need to go back to school and do a degree just to understand why you can’t get through the day! So what would you rather do? Spend another 3-5 years trying to figure it out with ChatGPT, Gemini and Google? Or have me come in and give you targeted strategies based on YOUR specific health picture? I know what I would choose.

Are you fed up of being told that you should just do as you are told and not know what is going on in your own body?

I feel like there is a bit of superiority in healthcare in general that tells people to just do as they are told and not to question the advice. However, I am strongly opposed to this. I think it’s your right to have a basic understanding of how your body uses nutrients and I hate the idea that we just have to trust the practitioner. When I couldn’t get the answers I wanted I learnt about the human body and now I teach you about how your body works so you can make empowered choices that help your health! 

You need to know not only your “why” for making changes, but also the “why” behind the things that I ask you to do. This shouldn’t be complicated, so let’s start with understanding and compassion and we will all do a lot better healthwise!
