With Halloween just a week away, we want to share 5 ways to make trick or treating more accessible! 🎃🍫🍬
1️⃣ Create a barrier free treat station
🎃 If you have stairs leading to the front door set-up a treat station on your driveway or front lawn
🎃 Clear your driveway and path of any possible obstacles
🎃 Ensure the path is well lit
2️⃣ Everyone is Different - Be aware of different behaviours and communication styles
🎃 Children have different ways of saying ‘trick or treat’
🎃 Some kids may use assistive technology, take more time to speak or may not use words
3️⃣ Use decorations that can be enjoyed by all
🎃Loud/scary noises and bright flashing lights can be over stimulating for children with sensory processing concerns
4️⃣ Have alternative ‘treats’ available
🎃 Stickers, crayons, erasers or small toys make great alternatives for trick or treaters who are not able to eat traditional Halloween candy
5️⃣ Let your neighbours know you are working to be
accessible this Halloween!
🎃 You can get a free lawn sign at Treat Accessibly to put outside your home
Thank you for putting this together!
