I have been away from my desk.

We have had a death in the family and I have been a little absent. I believe I have now caught up on emails and missed calls, and rescheduled appointments I had to move, but please reach out again if you have not heard back from me! I will be on vacation this weekend beginning tomorrow morning and will be unable to take appointments. I will be back on the road on Monday and will able to start take more appointments starting then.

As always, please reach out via text/email/or phone, and please leave a message with your name and phone number if I am in an appointment and unable to take your call!

For those of you on rout to Grand Narrows I am extending services that way! I would love to pick up a few more clients in that area to help decrease travel time and make appointments more affordable for all! Please reach out if you are in that area and looking for foot care

Have a great weekend.

Cracks... no, not the ones on your butt. We are talking about the ones often found on the soles of your feet! I most often see these in the heels and the inside edge of the ball of your feet. These not only form because of dry skin, but also due to extremely thick calluses.
What can you do at home to treat these? Firstly, if you have any issues with sensation or blood flow to your feet (diabetes, nerve damage, old age, etc) you need to keep a close eye on them and make sure they are not becoming infected. Many cracks are surface level deep, but they can become deep enough to cause wounds. The next step is to use a nice thick cream at least once a day to help keep the skin nice and soft. The third step is to get someone to help you thin that thick stubborn skin and get to the bottom of that crack!
Below is a before and after of a treatment I did recently. These are often caused by friction, dryness, and general dehydration. This means that they will return unless the underlying issue is addressed. They cannot always be completely erased in one treatment, and they have a likelihood of returning. I have been treating these heels for a few months, and the first time I saw this client that crack had actually been bleeding on and off. The client and I left too much time between treatments leading to a return of the crack, but how much better do we think that feels?

What is the difference between nursing foot care and a pedicure at a salon? I am not here to say that my services are better than an Esthetician's. They are very different services. You give me a bottle of nail polish and a picture of beautiful nail art, and you will not get what you hope for. However, you show me your painful toes, extremely long/thickened nails, corns, calluses or foot wounds and I can help you! I am trained to assess your feet for issues, identify injury or areas of concern, treat your feet using evidence based practices, prevent further injury where I can, provide teaching about how to properly care for your feet, and will send you to a physician or other healthcare provider when I feel your needs exceed my scope of practice. Neither is better than the other, they serve different purposes. Regardless of your age, gender, ability/disability, ethnicity, or condition you deserve to be treated according to your needs.
As always, call, text, or email to book an appointment!

Hallux Valgus aka a Bunion. Often occurring in individuals who wear shoes with narrow toe boxes (looking at you high heels). The end of your big toe starts pointing towards your pinky toe causing the joint at the base of the toe to protrude towards your opposite foot.
What causes it? I commonly see this in all you ladies in your 70's that somehow used to stand 8+ hours a day in high heels. Can I fix it? Sadly I cannot. While some people benefit from splints to help spread the toes, others need surgery. For treatment of the joint itself, a physician is your best starting point. The good news is that it doesn't always need to be fixed! The not so great news is that the big toenail can cause issues when pointed so close to your other toes. I CAN help you with that! By keeping an eye on the length/shape of that great toenail I can help prevent ulcers and other wounds from developing. The number of toes that I see with a nail growing across and into its neighboring toes would shock you! I can't imagine how painful that must be. This is however a relatively easy thing for me to manage and one of the things I love taking care of.
As always, I'm only a call, text, or email away.

Thick toenails. The assumption is that thick toenails are fungal nails. This isn’t always the case! Thickness in nails can be due to previous trauma, normal aging patterns, and among other things, the dreaded fungus. We as humans have an obsession with perfectly manicured nails, but sometimes that isn’t easily achievable. In these cases we need to shift to improvement and comfort.

Fungal nails need to be diagnosed and treated by a Physician or Nurse Practitioner. Sometimes pharmacists can recommend over the counter treatments that can be tried at home. The problem with nail fungus is that it can take a year or more to clear up, it will reoccur if not completely cleared up, it can be spread to those around you, and it is not always easy to treat.

Regardless of the reason for your thick nails, a foot care nurse can help manage them. Using special tools my goal is to thin nails where possible, trim nails to a safe and comfortable length, assess your feet for injury, file nails to prevent injury, and sand the nails surface to prevent sharp edges/divets. I can give you information to help you seek treatment if wanted and teach you about preventing the spread of fungus to your loved ones.
