💧 Pool therapy isn’t about swimming, it’s about moving better, with less stress on your body.
🌊 Warm water helps relax tight muscles and sore joints, creating a comfortable environment for movement. The natural resistance of the water supports strength building without heavy loading, while buoyancy reduces the effects of gravity on areas like your back, hips, and knees.
The water also provides gentle support through hydrostatic pressure, helping people with balance challenges move with more confidence and less fear of falling. Even your breathing muscles get a workout, supporting strength that carries over beyond the pool 🌬️.
✅ And yes, this is important: You do not need to know how to swim to do pool therapy.
Pool therapy is guided, supported, and suitable for all ages and abilities.

One of the most common questions we hear is:
“Is this vertigo, or just dizziness?” 🤔
Here’s a simple way to start telling the difference 👇
🌀 Vertigo
– Feels like the room is spinning or moving
– Often triggered by head movements or rolling in bed
– May come with nausea or balance issues
😵 General dizziness / lightheadedness
– Feels faint, foggy, or unsteady
– Often linked to fatigue, hydration, blood pressure, or stress
– Not usually a spinning sensation
Understanding what kind of dizziness you’re experiencing matters, because treatment depends on the cause. Vertigo often responds well to specific vestibular assessments and targeted exercises, not just “waiting it out.”
If dizziness keeps showing up, getting it properly assessed can help you feel steadier, safer, and more confident in your movement again.

If traditional rehab feels painful, intimidating, or just not possible right now, pool therapy can be a powerful place to start.
Pool therapy is physiotherapy done in a pool 🌊 under the guidance of trained healthcare professionals. The water’s buoyancy supports your body, reducing load on joints and injured tissues while still allowing meaningful movement.
Pool therapy can help:
💪 Make exercise more comfortable when land-based rehab is difficult
🌿 Reduce pain and stiffness during recovery
🏃♂️ Improve strength, mobility, and confidence in a safer environment
⏱ Support earlier rehab after injury or surgery
😌 Lower overall stress while keeping you active
Rehab doesn’t have to start on land. Sometimes, the water is the best first step forward.

One of the most common questions we get at Koonar Physiotherapy is:
“How do I know where my pain is actually coming from?”
Here’s a simple breakdown 👇
1️⃣ Muscle pain
-Dull, achy, or tight
-Often worse with movement or pressure
-Can feel sore or fatigued after activity
2️⃣ Joint pain
-Feels deeper or sharper
-May feel stiff, stuck, or limited
-Often noticeable at end ranges of motion
3️⃣ Nerve pain
-Sharp, burning, or shooting
-May travel down the arm or leg
-Sometimes comes with tingling or numbness
Understanding the source of your pain helps guide the right treatment plan, exercises, and recovery strategy. That’s why assessment and movement testing matter.
Treat the cause, not just the symptoms.

Koonar Physiotherapy opened its doors in February 2008. Michael Koonar, a Master in Physical Therapy graduate of The University of Western Ontario and second generation Physiotherapist, couldn’t wait to provide a unique brand of physiotherapy services to the Windsor-Essex community. What began in 900 sq.ft. as Michael, providing the patient care, and Casey, running the front desk, has grown to a multidisciplinary, multi-centre, rehabilitation brand known for high-quality care in a positive and compassionate environment. Michael and Casey are still working hard daily and are joined by an amazing team of 20 health professionals and support staff. Growth is based simply on hard-work, a dedicated interest in patient success and a solid reputation in the community. A proud member of the local community we have raised trophies with both the Windsor Spitfires and Windsor Express, but it is the success in clinic with our patients that makes us feel like champions every day.
Our Approach:
We developed the philosophy of Start Feeling Better Today! as both a challenge to ourselves and a commitment to you, our patients. We want to let you know we are as interested in your recovery as you are. From before the initial assessment, we provide a helpful voice on the phone and a smile at our front desk. The administrative team will go above and beyond to ensure your questions are answered and you start your experience on the right foot. Your therapist will spend the time to fully understand your condition and you will undergo a comprehensive assessment. During this time you will be provided with education and information about why you are suffering and the plan we have to help achieve your recovery goals. Feeling better today isn’t just about pain relief, it is about knowing you are in a place that cares about you, informs you and has the means to address your concerns. A successful rehabilitation is teamwork between our therapists and you the patient. We are committed to your success and are excited to get started on that road to recovery.
