November is Domestic Violence Awareness Month across North America. In Manitoba we use the term Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) to specify the abuse that happens in the context of intimate relationships. IPV impacts nearly everyone, whether that is directly or indirectly.

Despite its prevalence, the lived experiences of the survivors of IPV are widely misunderstood. At Klinic we want to do our part to show that we are by busting some common myths about IPV.

Follow our social media pages for weekly IPV myths and truths throughout the month of November.

Counselling is available to individuals and families who have been affected by domestic abuse, through Klinic’s EVOLVE program. EVOLVE also provides individual or group counselling to people who use violence and recognize that their behaviour is problematic and harmful in a current or former intimate relationship.

Access this service by phoning our Centralized Intake Line at 204-784-4059. 💜

Supporting People: What to Say

I’m here for you

You’re not alone in this.

You matter

You are important to me

Let me help

Do you want a hug?

Depression is real

You are not going crazy

You can survive this

When all this is over, I’ll still be here and so will you

It’s ok to feel this way

Would you like some company for a while?

I’ll do my best to understand

Take as long as you need

You’re a good person

You’re not a burden

I care

Could you use some help with housework or grocery shopping?

Would you like me to drive you to your doctor's appointments?

Your life makes a difference to me

I don't understand what you are feeling, but I can offer my compassion

You won’t drive me away

I’m not going to leave you or abandon you

I care about you

We’ll get through this together

I’m sorry that you’re in so much pain. I am not going to leave you. I am going to take care of myself, so you don’t need to worry that your pain might hurt me

Do you want some space?

A day late but too cute not to share, plus it's true no matter what day it is

Halloween costumes are for fun , not for assumptions. 🧙‍♀️🐺🧛No matter the season or setting, consent is always required.

If you or someone you know requires support who has been impacted by sexualized violence, Survivor’s Hope Crisis Centre is here.

Our support and crisis services are available today and every weekend.
visit us at survivors-hope.ca or call us at 204-753-5353.

If you visit an ER or RCMP detachment in the Interlake ask for SARAH workers.

You are never alone. We believe you. We will sit with you.

Photo: Two people dressed as playful ghosts stand facing each other, surrounded by Halloween candy and pumpkins. A spider web hangs in the corner. Text reads: “From witches to werewolves, here’s what’s true – consent is needed in all you do. Happy Halloween.” Survivor’s Hope Crisis Centre logo is in the top corner.
