My name is Anne Weeks (she/her) and I am a Certified Postpartum Doula serving communities on the West Coast. I respectfully acknowledge that I live, work & play in the ancestral & unceded territory of the ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ (Tla-o-qui-aht) & Nuučaan̓uł (Nuu-chah-nulth) First Nations
WHAT IS A POSTPARTUM DOULA? A Postpartum Doula is a non-medical support worker, whose main role is to assist families after they arrive home with a new baby. My goal as a Postpartum Doula is to ease the transition of parenthood so that families can feel supported and encouraged. Having a Postpartum Doula visit your home - especially during the "fourth trimester" (or first 3 months after giving birth) - provides nurturing support, physical help and valuable information for the whole family. A Postpartum Doula provides the opportunity for extra rest & healing, increased self-care, improved nutrition and informational support / referrals for any concerns that may arise. It’s a trained support worker to focus on caring for your physical and emotional well-being while you care for your baby. Home visits may include:
- Holding baby so you can rest, shower, and take time for self care
- Assisting with small household chores such as tidying up, making snacks, doing dishes and baby’s laundry
- Support with feeding (nursing, pumping or bottles)
- Working with partners, additional children and other family members so everyone feels empowered
- Providing research-based information and referrals for any postpartum issues
- Simply being there to listen: providing non-judgmental, inclusive emotional support
- Grocery shopping and running small errands, taking your baby for a stroll, serving you a cup of tea if you are having a tough day…there are many ways in which I can help set you up for success in your parenting journey! I am certified in Emergency First Aid with CPR C (infants & children). SOUNDS HELPFUL - SO WHY SHOULD I HIRE YOU? As a mother of two boys, I know how challenging parent life on the West Coast can be. Birthing out of town, combined with rainy winters and limited support, can leave families at risk for feeling isolated and exhausted. As a Postpartum Doula, I can help. By offering guidance, information and physical / emotional comforts during the first year after giving birth, I can help restore some balance during this intense - and magical - time. I strive to provide non-judgemental, kind and inclusive guidance to meet each person where they are at each day. Every family has different needs, and I believe the time for postpartum support does not end after the first few weeks! Feel free to reach out if you need an extra hand, wherever you are in your parenting journey…
