30, flirty and…breaking out?😩

Having acne as an adult isn’t fun. I know exactly how it feels because I struggled with it for yeeeeears.

Unfortunately, acne isn’t just a teenage issue.

One third of women in their 30’s actually report having some type of acne (🤯)

So you’re definitely not alone.

The prevalence of adult acne is often connected in some way to fluctuating and imbalanced hormones.

How does this work?

~ Hormones can increase sebum production
~ This means increased oil production in the skin which traps dead skin cells and bacteria (clogging our pores)
~ Inflammation is also increased leading to breakouts

There are some telltale signs that your breakouts are triggered by a hormonal imbalance:

1. Your acne shows up on the chin and jawline
2. You breakout at the same time(s) every month, such as when you’re ovulating, before or during your period
3. You experience PMS symptoms like bloating and cravings (and pesky pimples)
4. You deal with painful, cystic breakouts (the kind that tends to scar)
5. You’re seriously stressed out

The good news is that once you identify you have a hormonal imbalance and start finding other related root causes, you can start making changes that can help correct those internal issues (like sluggish detoxification or a stealth infection in the gut).

That’s where I come in as an Acne Nutritionist👋🏼

Acne is complex and it’s not as easy as buying a magical skincare product.

BUT with a personalized approach, it’s 100% possible to have clear skin. I promise you that!

SNEAKY SKIN TRIGGERS🫣

It’s important to note that a trigger is different than a root cause…

A root cause is the underlying reason you’re experience acne. A trigger on the other hand sets something off that was already likely to occur.

Let’s take coffee for example ☕️

Coffee can be a trigger for some people with acne. But the ROOT CAUSE could be poor gut health and adrenal imbalances.

The coffee can “trigger” a breakout because it may be causing inflammation in the gut and throwing off cortisol, which can lead to clogged pores.

So what does all of this mean?

While it might be necessary to avoid certain triggers when you’re healing your acne, the KEY to clearing your skin is addressing your own root cause.

I work with clients on this in my 1:1 Acne Clear Program and I have one spot left for the month of October — DM me to book a free discovery call and we can chat more!

Hormone imbalances are one of the main contributing root causes I see in my clients with acne.

Here’s a list of hormone loving foods to add to your diet to help your skin glow from the inside out🫶🏼:

🥦 Cruciferous veggies: Foods like broccoli, kale, cabbage, cauliflower and brussel sprouts help the liver metabolize estrogen

🤎Ground flax seeds: Help to remove excess estrogen from the body

🐟Wild salmon: Loaded with omega 3 fatty acids and a healthy source of protein

✨Organic tempeh: A fermented type of soy that contains probiotics (v important to purchase organic for this one!)

🥑Avocado: Contains healthy fats that balance our blood sugar and nourish our adrenals with stress-fighting vitamin B5

🥬 Leafy greens: Source of antioxidants and magnesium

🥕Carrots: Contains high amounts of vitamin A which is needed for the thyroid. Also supports liver detox or estrogen

🍜 Bone broth: Helps seal the intestinal lining so you’re able to absorb nutrients (nutrient deficiency is a common cause of hormone imbalance)

🌰 Nuts: Rich in minerals like magnesium and selenium. I especially like Brazil nuts to help support the thyroid

Which ones are you going to start eating more of? Let me know in the comments and a tag someone who would like this post 😇

29 🎈 My bday wish is to go back to the ocean!!! (Aka using this as an excuse to post more Jamaica pics)

28 was a year of change and big decisions. I left my job, trusted my intuition and went back to school. I started on a new path where there were a lot of unknowns.

For 29, I’m manifesting healing and success. It will be the year I become a Holistic Nutritionist, launch my own business, and (hopefully) see things come to fruition that I’ve been working towards.

I want it to be the year I let go of parts of the past that have been holding me back. I want it to be the year I dig deep and let go of what isn’t serving me. I want to continue to pour into my own cup so I can help others. And honestly just work on living in the moment instead of constantly worrying about the future (ew, I’m such a Pisces haha). I also want to stop people pleasing.

Most of all I just want it to be a happy, positive and healthy year☺️ Are you supposed to get sappy with age?
