Staying regulated during audition season is SO important. Staying regulated will help you feel better, rest better, and actually show up better when it counts ✨

I have read that an audition impacts your nervous system at the same level as a car accident. 🤯. Please don't undermine how much you're doing and giving. The fact that you're feeling tired, overwhelmed and probably a bit (or a lot) anxious MAKES SENSE. There is nothing wrong with you ❤️

I know it feels like the getting the job you really want will solve all your problems. And while I agree that it will likely be a great source of happiness, it's important that you take it off the pedestal. Please don't let it be the ONLY thing that makes you happy. Remind yourself to work towards building a fulfilling, purposeful, joyful life regardless of work ❤️ Work is just the cherry on top of the already delicious sundae!

Good Morning from the rehearsal hall! ☀️🎭

In case we haven’t met yet, hi!! 💕I’m thrilled you’re here! My name is Alex Herzog, and I thought it would be fun for all of us to share about ourselves! I’ll start!

I was a performer for 15 years. I started as a dancer and then did musical theatre post-secondary. I had an incredible career, across the country, in ensemble and lead roles! Sooo grateful for that part of my life! I also dealt with extreme performance anxiety and perfectionism. Though that was a debilitating challenge, it’s what lead me to become a coach! There are tools and skills that majorly help, that no one ever taught me. It’s my absolute mission in life to help other artists feel more confident and in control of their performances and lives!

Oh yea, back to this picture of me in the rehearsal hall! I’m also a director and choreographer! I work in theater and film/tv 🎬Right now I’m choreographing a production of The Lightning Thief!

It’s really important to me to be in the industry AND be a coach. It’s important to me to live and breathe what my clients are experiencing. I know that some coaches only coach- and that’s great! But I think that being actively involved is one of the things that sets me apart as a coach ❤️

The time leading up to my performing career taking off felt really dark! All of these seemingly give-up-worthy things were happening. It felt like there was evidence everywhere that I was not going to make it.

I don’t want to say it was that randomly overnight everything changed. It did in a sense, but none of it was a fluke. I had been planting seeds all along, there was just no obvious evidence of those seeds sprouting, until one day the whole garden was in bloom.

If things are feeling dark, frustrating, like a dead-end, like everyone you know is making it but you… I WAS THERE TOO! Use me as PROOF that it is entirely possible for all of those things to happen AND have a dream career. I’m literal evidence.

I think one of the coolest parts of working with me, is that though I have an incredible resume, NONE of it came easy. Life gave me a challenging route! Lol. I had to restart so many times, and force myself to keep going when it felt impossible. I am not just your coach, but your ally in your journey. I believe in you more than you believe in you! I’ve walked it too.

Dancers: winning is lovely but it isn’t the only measure of success.Winning is something that you can’t control- it’s all up to the judges tastes and preferences!

Wins and trophies fade over time. The memories you make with your friends, the way a compliment you gave someone boosted their confidence, the way your team came together and went all the way… that’s what lasts a lifetime.

Last weekend I received a Guthrie Award from the Stratford Festival Guthrie committee to continue doing the work I do with Next Up! I was so moved to have received this. I am so excited that mindset work for performers is being upheld, recognized and celebrated 🥲

This award will be used to grow a new branch of Next Up that doesn’t exist yet. Any guesses? Drop them in the comments! 👇
