We don't need to wait for research to understand that new dads may experience emotional or mental health challenges too.

Being new parents is not easy. It's a time when a positive support system is essential!

There's a lot of shame around perinatal mental health challenges. Sometimes, these feelings of anxiety and depression start in pregnancy.

What's important is to have non-judgemental support, and to know where to go if you need to chat.

Reach out to your doctor, a trusted friend, a family member, a therapist,or your local public health unit to talk to a nurse. It's important that you share what you're feeling rather than suffering alone.

If you have a new parent in your life, share this post and follow for more. It may just be the little act that starts a conversation.

There's a safe method to bottle feed called paced bottle feeding. If you need to use this method, learn about it as soon as you can!

Here's how you do it:
1. Keep your baby in a semi upright position.

2. Keep the bottle horizontal and the ni**le half full. Use a slow flow, wide ni**le to mimic the breast.

3. Tickle the baby's upper lip with the bottle to help them latch onto the ni**le.

3. Support your baby's head and neck and allow them to suck 3-5 times before giving them a break to breathe. Repeat until your baby shows signs of fullness.

This method allows the baby to stay on control and follow their satiation cues.

You can see how it's done here: https://youtu.be/xlrk5T0jWwQ?si=w2nPo0gB7usCn593

Remember, babies will not take the same amount at every feed, just like you don't eat exactly the same thing at every meal!

So you're home from the hospital and your baby won't stop crying, or is feeding more than every two hours....you think you don't have enough colostrum, right?

This is already when a lot of new moms give up.

Remember the size of their stomach. Remember there are other reasons why newborns cry, like their diaper needing a change being too hot, too cold, boredom, wanting to feel your skin, clothes bothering them, etc.

Empower yourself with knowledge.

Confident mom.
Calm baby.

Newborns typically feed more than 8 times in 24 hours! That means at least every 2 -3 hours, through the day and night.

Frequent feeding doesn't mean you don't have enough milk. Remember the size of their little belly and remember that it fills up and empties quickly.

Frequent night feedings are a huge shift for adults who were able to sleep undisturbed through the night. Make plans to take shifts, and accept all the practical help you can get to make it through the adjustment period.
