This study analysed information from IMAS - the International Map of Axial Spondyloarthritis. In a nutshell, the global delay to diagnosis is 7.4 years with large regional differences. What causes a longer delay to diagnosis? Younger age at symptom onset, female gender, diagnosis made by a rheumatologist, greater number of HCPs seen before diagnosis and history of uveitis were the parameters associated with a longer diagnostic delay in axSpA patients.

In this global sample of axSpA patients the mean diagnostic delay was 7.4 years, and showed significant differences across regions. Acute anterior uveítis is the most common extra-musculoskeletal manifestation in SpA.
💊 Biologic therapies, especially monoclonal TNF-inhibitors, have been shown to be effective in uveítis treatment.
👁️ It was found a lower frequency ofuveitis development in SpA patients after the year 2000, the period in which biologics were introduced as SpA treatment.
