Hello,

Townhall meeting this Thursday June 4th @5:30pm

It has been an extraordinarily difficult time for the Black community, and I would like hear from you.

As the Prime Minister echoed earlier this week, we can’t pretend that racism doesn’t exist here in Canada. The images and stories we’ve been seeing lately are all too familiar for many of our neighbours. Anti-Black racism is real. Unconscious bias is real. Systemic discrimination is real. We must continue to take meaningful action to fight racism and discrimination in all its forms.

In an effort to create a safe and open space for honest and constructive dialogue regarding anti-Black racism here in Canada, I would like to invite you to a Black Community Townhall this Thursday (tomorrow) at 5:30pm.

My apologies for the very late notice for this meeting. We felt it was urgent and important so we are starting this conversation ASAP. It won’t be the last time we convene to talk about these important issues, so rest assured we are available at other times for feedback, but we hope you can join us online tomorrow.

Please share the invite broadly to your contacts and community.

In an effort to keep the q&a portion as safe as possible, and a place for honest discourse, we won’t be recording or broadcasting the conversation.

Notes will be taken, and feedback will be delivered to various federal minister and departments. This conversation is meant to inspire action and change, not just more dialogue.

As a Member of Parliament it is imperative that I hear from you, learn from you, and understand what I can do to better represent and support everyone in our community

I look forward to seeing you online, today evening.

Adam van Koeverden

Member of Parliament for Milton

Parliamentary Secretary for Diversity and Inclusion Youth

Parliamentary Secretary for Heritage (Sport)

Emergency Community Support Fund Open for Applications // Le Fonds d'urgence pour l'appui communautaire est ouvert

The Government of Canada’s $350 million Emergency Community Support Fund is now open. The Emergency Community Support Fund supports community organizations helping vulnerable people during the COVID-19 crisis. Community organizations may seek funds to undertake a wide range of activities and to serve a wide range of vulnerable groups.

Community organizations may apply for funds through either the Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada or the United Way Centraide network. The right place to apply depends on the community organization’s type:

Non-profit organizations may apply to the Canadian Red Cross’ national portal here.
Registered charities and other qualified donees may apply to Community Foundations of Canada’s national portal here or to their local United Way Centraide (check the United Way Centraide Canada’s website here for information on how to apply).

Community organizations of both types can apply to the Canadian Red Cross for training and equipment to help their staff and volunteers prevent disease transmission.

You can find more information on the Emergency Community Support Fund’s website. If you would like to learn still more, you can register here [LINK] to join one of three webinars. We will hold the webinars at:

Hello everyone,

$25M Funding Announcement for Black Communities - Conversation with Minister Hussen and Adam Vaughan (Sunday) at 5 pm

You are invited to meet with Minister Hussen via zoom or by phone, regarding the announcement today of the $25M in funding for Black / People of African Descent by Minister Hussen committed by Prime Minister Trudeau in the 2018 budget. Please note, this $25 M is not in any way related to COVID 19 Emergency response. We still remain hopeful that the government of Canada will demonstrate concern with Emergency funding for Black Communities as he had for many others during this pandemic.

Come find out what this means to you and take the opportunity to ask questions. Please share with your network and join the conversation from the comfort of your home via:

Initiative EPI - Initiative PPE

PPE Initiative was created by a team of professionals and entrepreneurs with backgrounds from various countries: Algeria, Cameroon, DR Congo, Ghana, Guyana, Morocco, Senegal & Uganda. They decided to unite to fight the spread of COVID-19 in Africa and the Caribbean.

Given the various initiatives happening in silos in Africa, beside the call out to all engineers, students and professionals, It aims is to regroup all the information related to the different projects under one platform, as well as to promote the preventive measures from the WHO against COVID-19.

By working collectively and by gathering all the information for every region of Africa and the Caribbean, the PPE Initiative aims at making a greater impact in the Afro-Caribbean community, allowing health professionals to work in a safer environment, and bringing the community closer to self-sufficiency in health and medical supplies & services.
