High phenolic compounds are very sensitive to temperature and can lose up to 50% of the phenolic potency in 12 months - if not stored properly. We take drastic measures to protect our high phenolic olive oils and guaranteed to contain the polyphenols that we claim. We are the only facility that has agreed to have our olive oil randomly tested multiple times a year and not only at time of harvest, which is extremely inaccurate for consumers that depend on these high phenolic compounds all year round!
High Phenolic or polyphenol-rich olive oils are recognized by the EU Health Claim Labeling Regulation 432-2012 stating that olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress. The health claim applies only toextra virgin olive oil with a minimum of 250mg/kg of polyphenols and is based on the daily consumption of 20g or 4tsp.
The approved testing Method for the health claim is qNMR, which is the method we use! We test our olive oils using the Folin method at time of harvest and qNMR immediately after for the Health Claim on our Laconiko Extra virgin olive oils and Laconiko Flavored olive oils. HPLC and Folin are not an approved testing method for the Health Claim.
