We Are Parents First If you're an independent parent you are raising your child(ren) without a partner whether by choice or circumstance, you've come to the right place! Welcome!

We are working to create resources and information that will be beneficial to you and your family. For single income families and one parent families there are advantages and disadvantages like any household. We will try to provide information that can help you make good choices financially, socially, emotionally and physically. One of the biggest challenges for all parents - but more so in this circumstance is using your time wisely. We'll look for ways to save time, manage time and spend time with your families. Another challenge finances. With tow incomes there may be more money and more flexibility - not always but generally speaking. With one income, you need to be a bit more creative lol. In Canada, single individuals are typically taxed at a higher rate than couples. We want to use this page for people to share how they are solving this for their families.

Today we celebrate all the brave women throughout the world who are and Have Been doing the work to break down barrier, crush stereotypes, move the needle and bridge the gaps in how we are perceived, valued and presented to ourselves and the world.

If we are to be honest when stepping forward, eyes wide open, we would do so fully understanding that we have been targeted, sexualized, commercialized and commoditized for the gain of others who want to maintain control and power of our bodies, minds, appearances and everything in between.

For those women who have had the audacity to be themselves and be women in the face of this ongoing often silent and unacknowledged onslaught, I say keep rising, keep rising, keep rising.

Hey everyone,

I would really appreciate your help with this. We’re trying to send backpacks filled with school supplies and dried goods to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to help with continued relief efforts.

The effects of the eruption of La Soufrière volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in April 2021, that resulted in mass evacuation and displacement of thousands of local residents, is still being felt. As this is my birthplace, I’m seeking donations to assist students and families alongside the Backpack Project, a Canadian non-profit, and the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH).

We are collecting donations for school supplies and groceries to distribute to those still requesting assistance. Our goal is to distribute 200 backpacks and raise $5000 before Christmas.

So far 84 backpacks full of school supplies, dried goods and toiletries have been shipped directly to students and families in local villages with the help of over 20 volunteers!

Local relief efforts are still underway but there have been delays. To avoid further delays, we chose to ship supplies directly to the villages which also support local merchants by buying local goods. We also found ways to facilitate direct deposit of funds so that recipients don’t have to wait in lengthy lineups or travel to the capital to collect funds.

To date, we have raised $1100 of our $5000 goal. You can help through the St. Vincent Volcano Relief site (https://planitefficiencysolutions.com/backpack-project-svg-recovery/ ) by sending international money transfers (for free through some banks) directly to family and friends, providing school supplies through the Backpack Project, donating through a SVG cultural Association in Canada, or donating gift vouchers for groceries – $50 Cdn can buy a weeks supply of groceries.

St. Vincent, is a beautiful island full of industrious, resilient people. Please help support the volcano relief efforts and local merchants.

Our Story

The goal of We Are Parents First is to support those who see parenting is a blessing and not a competition; as a function of quality not quantity and to help each other raise emotionally and spiritually healthy children who are contributing members of society, protectors of the environment, guardians of each other and our communities.

I’ve always found the term ‘single parent’ offensive and limiting. So I create this page to highlight courageous, strong families where parents who are independently raising their children successfully and where they could empower and support each other with acceptance and encouragement. By fostering unity, strength and peace among all families regardless of their composition, by working towards these common goals, we can create better governments, supportive workplaces and stronger communities that protect parents and children and create supportive nurturing environments that are safe and welcoming for all children. All families should have the right and the freedom to be happy and secure for the simple fact that we are responsible for the most precious resource on this planet, for that reason, we need to take good care.
