Spotlight on Ability:
Meet the Oshawa Vikings Mixed Ability Rugby Team — proof that sport is strongest when everyone belongs.

Established in 1959, the Vikings are one of the first rugby clubs in North America accredited by International Mixed Ability Sports, bringing people of all abilities together on the same field, as equal teammates. Their model isn’t about limitation — it’s about talent, teamwork, and potential.

The club continues to lead by example, from welcoming entire families into the sport to opening the first sensory room in a local sporting venue at Thompson Rugby Park.

In June 2025, the Vikings’ men’s and women’s Mixed Ability teams made history representing Canada at the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament in Pamplona, Spain. The women’s team reached the semi-finals, while the men’s team narrowly missed their spot — a remarkable achievement for both teams on the world stage.

This is what inclusion looks like when it’s done right:
different abilities, shared purpose, one team — because ability isn’t limited. It’s unleashed.

Season's Greetings

Indigenous peoples across Canada and other cultures around the world celebrate the Winter Solstice on Dec. 21. It is the year’s longest night, and celebrations honour the symbolism of fire and light along with life, death, the rising sun and the moon.

Wishing you peace, joy, and a touch of Canadian winter magic this Solstice. May your heart be warmed by the promise of returning light and your days ahead be filled with love, laughter, and hope.

Survival is strength. What carried you through?

Day 16: shared by clients
"Things that carried me through: Prayer"

As the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (Nov 25 – Dec 10) come to a close, we pause to reflect on the stories and strength shared through our theme: “Things That Carried Me Through.”

Over the past days, survivors have shared what helped them keep going — connection, hope, family, friendship, community. Their courage reminds us that survival is strength and that healing grows when we listen, believe, and act together.
The 16 Days may end, but our commitment doesn’t.
Let’s keep raising awareness, supporting survivors, and building safer communities , today and every day.
