This how well my 2021 has been going in the way of goals ... it’s NOT.
Can anyone else relate??

Mornings are the worst
Getting up out of bed some days takes a whole lot of energy I do not have. Proper sleep is so important. It helps my body recharge. I elevate my leg during the night, which helps with the pain.
Physically getting up out of bed is not an easy task and those first few steps hurt, my limp is super defined. I scoot around the house in the morning straight to the coffee machine. After I get into the swing of things my limp isn’t as bad and I go about my day.
I know that the better I take care of my body (stretch, ice, elevate my leg) the better my mornings will be. That’s why I always stress to everyone to take care of your body, it adds up!
Can anyone relate? What helps you get up and get moving?

New Year, new you!
Well, well, well 2021, what do you have in store for us? Do we have to buckle up for another bumpy ride, or has the crazy ride subsided a bit? Let’s hope for the latter part.
What is your “WORD” to guide you in 2021? This took me sometime to think about, but mine is “ADAPTABLE”.
Since I was discharged at the hospital post accident five years ago, I’ve made some life plans in my mind. They really kept me going and helped me at the time to get home and make the best of the situation. The problem was they weren’t the most realistic or specific. One was that I’d finally be settled and magically a different person after my court case finalized. I thought I would wake up and my life would be different.... haha if only it was that easy. The pain is still there, so is the rehab and my resiliency might be a little bruised too. Time for some realistic expectations and with that means I’m going to be more adaptable.
Specifically following though on making changes I’ve set my mind too even after I hit the first road block. Often times I set a task, making an attempt to resolve it, encounter a road block, identify what the issue is, but then cease to pivot and complete the task. Not this year! I’m getting granular with defining this, and I’m not letting it get the best of me. The more specific your goal is the more realistic it is that you’ll accomplish it.
What is your word to guide you in 2021 and why?!

Recovery is like early menopause ...
(Or at least how I think it would feel) I don’t know about you, but during my recovery especially the beginning my internal thermometer was extremely off. I was always scorching hot. I’d have to put the temperature all the way down to stay cool and not sweat through the bed sheets. My family would come in to visit me at the rehab facility and have layers of clothes on, sometimes even coats and mittens.
I used to be someone whose internal temperate was always cold. Now I feel like I’m the opposite. When your body has gone through extreme trauma it throws it off. The body is working vigorously to heal.
This crazy changing weather made me think about this. The weather has been all over the place, but then again so was I during recovery, haha!
Did you experience this during recovery?

A good kick in the butt
For me making sure I get off the couch and do something productive for myself is so important. I’ve done two days in a row of long walks and I can definitely feel it. I did some lunges with the baby stroller, high marching and calf raises. My leg hurts, but my mind is clear. Then today to top it off I did some aqua therapy, and I feel so much better. The water resets me!
I finally feel like I’m coming out of my rut that I began the week with.
Making sure you know how to reset your mind is so important for your mental health. The time is NOW to take control.

Mental health check-in:
As the news came trickling in about the provincial lockdown in Ontario (and other lockdowns worldwide), I could feel my stress levels rising. I couldn’t sleep last night stressed out and worried what another impending lockdown could mean! No family, no friends ... only connecting virtually.
I need social interaction. It was definitely one of the biggest factors affecting my positive recovery. It made me feel human despite the terrible reality of my injuries and circumstances.
We can expect people’s mental health is going to be drastically affected. It’s the time of the year when people get together because people are off work and school. Instead this year we were kept isolated in our houses. When will this go away? You turn on the news and it’s COVID, COVID or COVID, nothing encouraging. Again, it plays a huge role on a persons mental health and it doing so is normal.
Mental health check-ins are so importan, so how are you holding up? I’m thinking of every single one of you.

How’s everyone doing?
It’s mid week aka hump day and almost the weekend. Is it just me or did we blink and this crazy crazy year is almost over? 2020 has been a whirlwind to say the least.
I was reflecting on the year and remembering when we were a week into January when my friend said, “Wow 2020 is starting out with a bang; the wild Australian forest fires, Trump may get impeached and rumours of this crazy virus starting in China. Could it get any worse?” Hahah well it sure did right when we thought it couldn’t.
Focusing on the positive though, 2020 has not been all doom and gloom. My boyfriend and I welcomed our son, Leo, in March, I CELEBRATED the five year anniversary of my car accident and I don’t have to worry about the insurance company watching me like a hawk anymore (finally), and I got to connect with so many of you while building OUR community in the process.
Don’t be shy, what positive things happened to you in 2020?

Name this handy dandy little tool.
Last night, I “made” this one quick because of the new piercing and I didn’t want to lay directly on it to avoid getting an infection and pain.
This is a donut pillow. They can be used for various things like a broken tailbone, I’ve used it this way in the past (due to my broken tailbone), discomfort in your lower lumbar/pelvic region, or during or after pregnancy. It helps relieve pressure, adds support, helps with posture and help relieve pain. They are so easy to make at home with a rolled up washcloth! It helps for those of you who have to sit for long periods of time either in a car or at your now (at home) office.
Try it out they work great!!!
