TDA Global Cycling

TDA Global Cycling Not your typical cycling tour company. Adventures for everyone. From 2 weeks to 5.5 months. Routes in over 80 countries on 6 continents.

TDA Global Cycling* was conceived in the late 1980’s when Henry Gold, the company’s Founder and Director, was managing an international NGO that delivered humanitarian assistance to disadvantaged communities in Ethiopia and other African countries. His original concept was to produce inexpensive, rugged mountain bikes in Africa, for Africans, as a low cost solution to local transportation needs, and to market this new bicycle by organizing a cycling race across the continent – the Tour d’Afrique. While the mountain bike project did not take off, the pioneering vision of the Tour d’Afrique proved irresistible. In early 2002 Henry and Michael de Jong began the preparations in earnest, undaunted by enormous skepticism and the mountain of logistical challenges to be overcome, and, on January 15, 2003, thirty-three cyclists saddled up at the Pyramids at Giza and started pedaling south. Four months later, with Table Mountain and Cape Town in sight, they celebrated the realization of their dream and the establishment of the Guinness World Record for the fastest human powered crossing of Africa. Since then our unique little company has grown, in leaps and bounds, through many trials and tribulations. Following in its spirit, several more long distance cycling expeditions have been undertaken. In 2015 we became TDA Global Cycling, a new name that reflects our growing portfolio of adventure cycling tours.

All told more than 1,200 intrepid souls have now completed one of our epic trans-continental rides. Through our Foundation, and the donations of many of our clients, more than 2,500 bicycles have been distributed to health care and community development workers in Africa and India. In short it has been one helluva ride. But we still have a long ways to go. There are so many more fascinating lands and hidden corners of this beautiful planet to discover, and we hope that you will be there with us when we do!

Today on the Golden Buddha Ride our group had a change of pace and has split into two!

About half of our riders left Luang Prabang by bike while the other half has decided to hang back for an extra day before taking a boat ride instead. The plan is to meet up in a few days while some of us float down the Mekong, and others continue our route by two wheels 🛶 🚲 🇱🇦

Either way we are sad to leave but excited to continue on. Stay tuned to get a glimpse at life on the Mekong,

Mexico gave us colour, heat, food, and heart.
Now we cross the border into Guatemala,

Continuing down the Mezcal Road, today we stepped behind the scenes to see how Oaxaca’s most iconic spirit is crafted, from cooked agave to copper stills… and yes, we tasted everything.

On the Golden Buddha Ride we have had a few rest days in Luang Prabang, where our riders have been able to witness and participate in the morning Alms.

This longstanding tradition in Laos Buddhist culture means that in early morning hours devoted offer food to monks throughout Luang Prabang. Here are some scenes just outside our hotel where the main procession went by earlier this morning.

The closer we ride to the source, the more we feel it culture, craft, and the backbone of Oaxaca. Mezcal Road miles.

Here are some moments from a hard but tough day of cycling in Laos:
Pic 1 - Rolf is all smiles nearing the end of a tough climb.
Pic 2 - A group of local kids swimming in a river on our route.
Pic 3 - Karl cruising across a river during the first half of our ride.

Our riders grinded through a tough and steep day of dusty roads riddled with pot holes for some type 2 fun. 🇱🇦

Our rest day in Oaxaca didn’t involve riders, long climbs or rushing to a hotel. Instead, we took a bike tour through Oaxaca’s most iconic street-art neighbourhoods with local artist and guide Diego Jacob Cano. It ended up being one of the most meaningful cultural moments of the section.

Arjuna Boucher-Pertuisot is the Content Creator on the 2025 North American Cycling Expedition. A huge shout out to Coyote Aventuras & guide Diego Jacob Cano for their support and insight into this fascinating city. Our rest day in Oaxaca didn’t involve riders, long climbs or rushing to a hotel.
