You may not realize this…
but this one kind of thinking has gotten your body into trouble more times than you can count.
Some people call it “perfectionism,”
but it’s actually much deeper than that.
It’s called black-or-white thinking.
This is when your mind tells you that things are either all good or all bad,
all success or all failure,
all safe or all dangerous—
with nothing in between.
Let me give you a real example.
One of my clients was really upset that she “had to” start a new medication.
She didn’t want to touch it, because the last time she took this antibiotic, she believed it caused her kidney failure.
Her brain went straight into black-or-white thinking:
“If I take this medication, I’m a failure…
and I’ll get kidney problems again.”
Can you feel how much pressure that puts on the nervous system?
This kind of thinking creates:
fear
tension
survival mode
and yes… more inflammation
Black-or-white thinking traps your body in stress because it leaves no room for safety, flexibility, or nuance.
So what’s the way out?
Flexible thinking.
Instead of the old thought, I encouraged her to try this:
“I can take this medication temporarily,
and I’m grateful for the support while I figure out more natural ways of healing that align with my goals.”
Feel the difference?
One is tight, rigid, and heavy.
The other is open, calm, and empowering.
Flexible thinking doesn’t just help your mind.
It helps your immune system, your nervous system, and your healing process.
I made a short video to walk you through this with more examples and suggestions.
