Spotlight on Dr. Hans Christoffersen

We’re excited to feature Dr. Hans Christoffersen, DVM, Business Strategist, and Innovator in Veterinary Technology, and a valued member of the NxVET Advisory Board.

With over two decades of experience in small animal medicine, Dr. Christoffersen is a seasoned veterinarian and business leader. A 2001 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, he has served in various roles, including ER veterinarian, associate veterinarian, shelter medicine practitioner, and instructor at his alma mater.

In 2016, Dr. Christoffersen became the third owner in the 75-year history of Animal Care Clinic in Brampton, Ontario, and later expanded his leadership by acquiring Lakeview Animal Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario. He also founded Bionex Multimedia to help veterinary practices enhance their online presence.

When he’s not innovating in veterinary medicine, Dr. Christoffersen enjoys playing hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, and pursuing photography.

Meet the Team: Dr. Jennifer Ogeer, DVM, MBA

Dr. Jennifer Ogeer is a world-leading advocate for animal welfare and healthcare, currently serving as the University Veterinarian at UBC. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph, followed by a residency at Tufts University/Angell Memorial Animal Hospital. Her academic roles include positions at Texas A&M and the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.

In addition to her veterinary expertise, Dr. Ogeer holds an Executive MBA from Ivey and an MA in Organizational Behavior from Guelph. She has advanced veterinary diagnostics and business management through leadership roles at Antech Diagnostics and IDEXX.

Dr. Ogeer is a passionate volunteer and advocate for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, serving as Chair of the Board for Veterinarians Without Borders North America and the OVC Pet Trust Board. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys outdoor activities in beautiful British Columbia.

Spotlight on Dr. Brendon Laing

We are excited to spotlight Dr. Brendon Laing, DVM, entrepreneur, and 2023 WSAVA Future Leader Award recipient.

A second-generation veterinarian, Dr. Laing’s life has been shaped by a passion for animal care, from assisting his father with large animal emergencies to delivering puppies at all hours. A graduate of Queen’s University (B.Sc. 2009) and the Ontario Veterinary College (DVM 2013), he earned the prestigious Small Animal Surgery Award from the ACVS.

Dr. Laing practices alongside his father at Town & Country Animal Hospital. He also serves as President of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association and Chair of the Professional Development Committee for the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. His global impact on veterinary medicine, including mental health advocacy, technological innovation, and a people-centered approach, earned him the 2023 WSAVA Future Leader Award.

We’re proud to have him as a member of the NxVET Advisory Board, shaping the future of veterinary medicine with compassion and innovation.

Shannon Gervais is the Vice President of Veterinary Clinical Partnerships at NerveX, bringing over two decades of experience in veterinary medicine. With a strong track record in leadership, innovation, and team development, Shannon has dedicated her career to advancing clinical workflows and empowering veterinary teams.

As a Registered Veterinary Technologist, Shannon has held key roles, including Director of Veterinary Technologist Learning & Development at VCA Canada, Head of Business Development at Animal HealthLink, and positions with Merck and Vetoquinol.

Her passion for improving veterinary medicine aligns perfectly with NerveX’s mission to enhance multi-species welfare through AI-enabled medical devices. Spotlight on Dr. Stacee Santi

We’re proud to highlight Dr. Stacee Santi, DVM, Tech Trailblazer and Champion of Client Experience, and a valued member of the NxVET Advisory Board.

A graduate of Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (1996), Dr. Santi brings more than 20 years of clinical and leadership experience to the veterinary profession. After two decades in small animal practice, she founded Vet2Pet, an innovative client engagement platform that was acquired by Vetsource in 2022.

Dr. Santi has served as President of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and was named Educator of the Year by Viticus Group in 2021. Her work has consistently focused on practice innovation, digital transformation, and elevating the client experience.

In addition to her leadership in veterinary technology, she is the author of Stop Acting Like a Girl, a book encouraging women to embrace assertiveness and confidence in their careers.

Meet the Team: Dr. Taufik Valiante

Dr. Taufik Valiante is Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of NerveX and a world-leading neurosurgeon-scientist at the University of Toronto and University Health Network. A graduate of the University of Toronto’s MD/PhD program, he completed his neurosurgery residency there before pursuing an epilepsy neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Washington, where he advanced techniques such as language mapping for epilepsy surgery.

Since 2003, Dr. Valiante has led groundbreaking research in the electrophysiological characterization of neuronal networks in epilepsy. He is a staff neurosurgeon at Toronto Western Hospital, specializing in adult epilepsy surgery, and serves as Co-Director of the Epilepsy Program at the Krembil Neuroscience Centre. He also co-directs the Centre for Advancing Neurotechnological Innovation to Application (CRANIA), bridging innovation and clinical impact.

Ranked 1st among more than 100 neurosurgeons on RateMDs and a recipient of the Connaught Innovation Award, Dr. Valiante brings clinical excellence and scientific leadership to the NxVET mission. Outside of medicine, you can find him cycling or spending time with his Portuguese Water Dog, Zora.

We’re proud to highlight Dr. Chad Wilkinson, DVM, Mentor, and Advocate for Efficiency & Wellbeing in Veterinary Medicine, and a valued member of the NxVet Advisory Board.

A lifelong Sudbury resident, Dr. Wilkinson retired in June 2023 after more than 30 years at Lockerby Animal Hospital, where he built a stellar reputation for clinical excellence and compassionate care. A graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College (1993), he further advanced his expertise through specialized training in endoscopy and dental surgery.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wilkinson combined high-quality medicine with a deep commitment to mentorship, professional leadership, and community service. Recognized as Sudbury’s Favourite Veterinarian, he has also served in leadership roles within local and provincial veterinary associations, consistently advocating for efficiency, well-being, and sustainable practice in veterinary medicine.

We are grateful for his perspective and leadership on the NxVet Advisory Board.
