Iโ€™m excited to announce the second date for our in-person herbal day retreat. The last one sold out!

Join (clinical herbalist Melanie Hill) & myself for a day of deep herbal exploration. The day will begin with a lecture about harvesting, go over a โ€œvirtualโ€ herb walk, where weโ€™ll learn to connect with and identify a wide variety of medicinal and edible plants. Weโ€™ll go over the ethics and technicalities of harvesting plants, as well as ways to deepen our personal and spiritual connections with the earth.

Following the herb walk, we will come together to savor a nourishing lunch that highlights locally sourced and seasonal produce enjoyed in community.

In the afternoon Melanie & Carley will co-lead a hybrid lecture, demonstration and hands-on afternoon where we explore the possibilities of herbal medicine in the average kitchen. Weโ€™ll be covering topics such as:

- Tea Blending and discerning what an infusion, decoction and cold infusion really are
- Herbal Infused Oils (culinary + topical)
- Oxymels
- Herbal Infused Vinegars
- Cooking with medicinal herbs

The day is a perfect intro to those who are herb-curious and keen to implement herbal medicine into their day to day lives. Herbalism is the peopleโ€™s medicine, and this is a great first step to taking charge of your health, connecting deeply to your surroundings, and diversifying your kitchen routines.

Youโ€™ll go home with a tea blend, an infused oil / vinegar and/or oxymel, as well as lots of resources and easy to replicate recipes and information from the day.

A little reminder to just to go for it! The best things happen when you push yourself out of your comfort zone. โœจ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿผ

Here is a glimpse of my dreamy Northern California road trip. I drove and camped along the coast (something Iโ€™ve always wanted to do) after I finished my herbal internship at with my fellow herbalist pal

I saw the most beautiful landscapes, interacted with medicinal plants in the wild, cooked amazing nourishing food over a fire, had some meaningful conversations, bought a knife, and did some epic hikes.

Then I met up with a dear friend in Nevada City California for a week which was magic. I canโ€™t wait to go back.

Stay hydrated by drinking water add some sea salt or electrolytes, infused teas and coconut water.

Iโ€™m fascinated by cyclical ebb and flows, both in nature (the moon cycle and seasons) and inner cycles (our mentrual cycle, organ body clock)

The Organ Body Clock in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) helps determine the organ responsible for DIS-ease in the body. For example, if you find yourself waking up between the hours of 3-5am each morning, you may have underlying grief or sadness that is bothering you or you may have a condition in the lung area. If feelings of anger or resentment arise, you may feel them strongest during the time of the Liver which is 1-3am or perhaps if you experience back pain at the end of your working day, you could have pent up emotions of fear.

The Body-Energy Clock is built upon the concept of the cyclical ebb and flow of energy throughout the body.

Understanding that every organ has a repair/maintenance schedule to keep on a daily basis allows you to identify which organ system or emotion perhaps needs strengthening/resolving.

Hidden Liver Meatballs

Consuming organ meats is a great way to add bioavailable nutrients into your diet and deeply nourish yourself using food.

Liver is a potent source of all of the B vitamins: including B12, B6 and folic acid - all crucial for womenโ€™s health.
* birth control depletes all of these

For those who are interested in incorporate more organ meats into their diet, but don't like the taste or don't know how to cook them, this is a great option for you.

Hidden Liver Meatballs
โ€ข1 lb. Nose to tail ground beef from or (1/2 lb grass-fed ground beef
1/2 lb beef liver chopped into tiny pieces. )
โ€ข 1 teaspoon sea salt
โ€ขยผ teaspoon black pepper
โ€ข1/4 cup of diced onion
โ€ข1 large egg
โ€ข1/3 cup of free parsley
โ€ข1 teaspoon garlic powder
โ€ขยผ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1. Preheat oven to 350 and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.

2. Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl. Mix enough to incorporate all of the ingredients

3. Roll into 1 inch balls.

4. Bake for 28-30 minutes, until they're just cooked and slightly browned on top.
