❤️ It all started with an idea: photos that reflect the heart of public health: community.

A collaboration with Heather Shannon Photography, friend of Piat Public Health, reminded us that community is about both people and place, and supporting each other expands our collective impact.

Proud to recommend our partner in creativity:

📣 In case you missed it!

Our founder, Alexandra Piatkowski, recently joined Omari Richins, AKA on the Public Health Careers podcast, sharing her career journey and the lessons that shaped Piat Public Health.

💡 The conversation covered the core of how we work:

🔹 communicating public health insights in multiple formats so information actually sticks
🔹 designing engagement that is led by communities and stakeholders, not assumptions
🔹 using data to drive decisions and action, not just to produce reports
🔹 bridging analytics and implementation so insights lead to impact
🔹 consulting in ways that build capacity alongside community expertise

✨ We’re proud to partner with organizations centred on equity, engagement, and data that drives real outcomes. Conversations like this remind us why we do the work the way we do it.

Mentorship is one of our favourite parts of working in public health—there is nothing more meaningful than watching someone grow, take risks, and create their own path.

Srija recently launched Unfiltered Public Health, a blog dedicated to elevating voices that aren’t always heard in our field. She created it as a space for honest, unfiltered conversations about the realities, challenges, and successes of early-career public health work. The content moves beyond data to highlight stories, lessons, and the people shaping public health every day.

We're so proud of her courage and commitment to building space for these conversations.

If you’re looking for thoughtful, grounded perspectives, give her work a read:

Here’s to more learning, connection, and supporting each other as we grow 💖

🌟 Leadership Spotlight 🌟

At Piat Public Health, our work is grounded in leadership that is thoughtful, steady, and people-centred. We’re proud to highlight this reflection on Founder & CEO Alexandra Piatkowski’s approach:

“I always appreciated Alexandra’s ability to be driven yet very patient with us. Her communication style was very calming, and she always took the time to listen, which I very much appreciate.”
— Gerald Bingham Jr., Health Commissioner, Ottawa County Health Department

Alexandra leads with intention — balancing momentum with empathy, and strategy with genuine care for the people she works alongside. Her ability to create calm, supportive environments while still driving meaningful progress is a core part of how Piat Public Health shows up in communities and organizations.

We’re grateful for the leaders who recognize and reflect the values we bring to every project.

CEO Testimonial Spotlight 🌟

We’re grateful to share these kind words from Erin Bishop, Health Commissioner at Youngstown City Health District, reflecting on her experience working with our Founder & CEO, Alexandra Piatkowski:

“I am so glad I got the opportunity to work with Alexandra. Doing a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) is never easy. She did a wonderful job working with everyone and kept us updated weekly about the process. Whenever I had a question, she would respond in a timely manner and would address any concerns I had. Our 2025 CHNA is so well done and organized, and I know Alexandra played a vital role. My only regret is not working with her longer.”

We are committed to collaborative, equity-centered community health planning that uplifts both data and lived experience. We’re honoured to continue this work alongside leaders, staff, and communities across North America.

If your organization is preparing for a CHNA, CHIP, or strategic planning process — we’d be happy to connect.

Piat Public Health is proud to be an Outreach Partner for Space for Grief (at Evergreen Brick Works until November 11)!

Today, our Founder & CEO, Alexandra Piatkowski, had the chance to visit Space for Grief — and described it as one of the most meaningful public installations she has ever experienced. The installation invites people to slow down, reflect, and make space for the many forms of grief — both personal and collective.

Created by Method Collective (Fran Quintero Rawlings Ziyan Hossain Calla Lee), alongside the support of many partners, Space for Grief blends art, sound, design, and research to reframe grief as not only individual, but also a public health and community issue — one that impacts mental health, social connection, community resilience, and how our systems show up for one another.

At Piat Public Health, we know that grief is a public health issue.

How we acknowledge, hold, and support expressions of grief shapes community health outcomes and our ability to create environments of care, safety, and belonging.

We are honoured to partner with Method Collective in helping expand the conversation around grief, healing, and the systems that shape our lives.

🌿 Visit Space for Grief at Evergreen Brick Works until November 11th (free admission).
