T H I R S T Y T H U R S D A Y 🍼

And today we’re talking about paced bottle feeding! Most of us were raised with the idea that we had to hold a baby on their back, and pour the bottle into their mouth, being sure not to let any air into the ni**le of the bottle.

But we’re here to say ✋🏽 stop 🛑 thank you very much, and consider paced bottle feeding instead!

Paced feeding allows baby to be in charge of how much they are eating, rather than eating a set amount that we *think* they might need. This can help prevent a gassy tummy from guzzling too much milk or formula at once 👌🏼

How is it done?
First, hold baby in a more upright position. Then, hold the bottle horizontally, rather than tipping it downward into their mouth. Allow baby to drink, and pause, and give them real breaks with burps every 1/2 to 1 OZ of liquid (depending on their age and size!). This can help baby be in charge of how much they are eating, and prevents them from getting over full without even realizing it. This is especially important when you are swapping between the breast and the bottle, because it makes bottle feeding a little more work for baby- which can help keep them from developing a preference for the bottle.

Have you tried paced feeding before ? Let us know!

It’s Thirsty Thursday, and we’re talking safe formula prep!

The most important thing is to read the canister directions, as prep can differ with the different types of formula. Tap water that is used needs to be boiled for two minutes, and then cooled for mixing formula. And finally, distilled water is not sterilized but can be missing minerals, so it is not recommended for formula preparation.

We always recommend learning about safe formula preparation in pregnancy, so that you can make an informed choice for your family 🌱✨

Today we pause together in remembrance.
We honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who gave their lives, those who returned forever changed, and those who continue to serve.

May we carry their legacy forward through compassion, community, and a commitment to a more peaceful future.

Oh at work, or at the grocery store.. you get it!

Where ever you are when your water breaks, you need to make your way into the hospital! 🏥 This way, the healthcare team can assess you and baby, and make the best plan of action to fit your unique needs 🌱
⚠️ Please do not wait until your next prenatal visit to be assessed, as typically providers don’t have all of the tools to diagnose waters breaking in their office. They will likely send you right on into the hospital for assessment.
🙋🏽‍♀️ What happens if you’re not sure if your water has broken? Sometimes water breaks in a big, dramatic fashion, and it just keeps coming! Sometimes, however, we just aren’t quite sure. Maybe it’s just a little gush, or a few gushes with movement. That’s ok! If you are wondering if your water has broken at all, it’s best to head in to be assessed. A physician or midwife can do a speculum exam to see if your water is broken.

If your waters have broken, the healthcare team can talk to you about next steps. Depending on your health situation, it may be best to stay and have labour induced, or they may discuss waiting for labour to come on it’s own, which will happen for most folks who break their water at term, within about 24 hours. Be sure to ask all the questions you need to feel comfortable in your decision 🤗🌱

It’s the start of that cold weather season ❄️ and many parents worry about whether their baby is warm enough.

Here’s a quick winter wellness hack:
Cool hands and feet don’t mean your baby is cold.
Babies’ circulation is still developing, so their extremities are often cooler than the rest of their body.

✅ Instead, check:
• the chest, or
• the back of the neck
These spots give you a much more accurate sense of your baby’s temperature.

Keep those little ones cozy — but not overheated — and trust that you’re doing an amazing job ✨🌱

We will be lighting a candle tonight to honour every little heart that left us too soon.

Today is pregnancy and infant loss awareness day- when we remember that 1 in 4 families experience this devastating grief, through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, medical termination, loss in the newborn period, or stillbirth.

These experiences deserve to be talked about. We send love and peace to those walking through the grief of losing a child. We know it’s an incredibly hard road, and we send you grace as you navigate it. 🌱

Your body holds ancient wisdom — it knows how to grow, birth, and nourish your baby.
This week, take a deep breath and trust in that wisdom. 💕

Birth isn’t about perfection or control — it’s about trust.
Every surge, breath, and pause is part of the rhythm that brings your baby closer to your arms.

✨ Repeat after us: I was made for this. 🌱

Save this for when you need a confidence boost before birth.

🧡 Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who carry this legacy.

As white women who descend from settlers, we recognize our responsibility to listen, to learn, and to act. The Calls to Action remind us of the urgent need for culturally safe care and for honouring Indigenous knowledge keepers. In birth and parenting, this means respecting the wisdom that has always been here and supporting the return of birth and healing to the land.

We walk with humility, knowing reconciliation is ongoing work. We commit to listening, unlearning, and fostering good relationships rooted in respect, truth, and love.

💤 Tired? Us too. If you’ve ever wondered whether your baby ‘should’ be sleeping longer, you’re not alone.
The truth is: night waking is normal. Babies wake for safety, feeding, and connection.
Instead of chasing perfection, try focusing on:
✨ Creating a soothing bedtime routine for your baby and yourself
✨ Keeping sleep spaces safe (flat, firm, clutter-free)
✨ Resting when you can… prioritizing your rest is not selfish!

You’re doing incredible—even if it doesn’t always feel like it. 💛

📌 Save this for later, and share with another parent who needs the reminder.
