“Naloxone is highly effective at reducing overdoses. It can be used to save lives by anyone — anyone who can afford it, that is.

The price for a two-pack of Narcan - the nasal spray - is $75. That’s too expensive for most musicians.

We're sending postcards to Robert Kramer, CEO of Emergent Biosolutions, the company that produces the Narcan, to ask him to lower the price of Narcan and make it affordable. This will save lives. ”

Musicians For Overdose Prevention are based in North Carolina, USA and in NC the price for naloxone is insanely high. We have it so lucky here in Canada. I am here to encourage you ti get a postcard and mail it in, regardless of where you are. If you’re Canadian, attach a note with a noted lack of receipt for our free narcan! The USAs fentanyl crisis is about 3-4x what we are suffering here, and this price point is shocking!

From Grenfell Ministries , we will be hosting our Annual General Meeting sometime toward the end of this month in April. Grenfell Ministries is host to many programs and harm reduction, peer support, outreach, and a shelter. We are based in Hamilton, ON.

https://www.grenfellministries.org

Included in Grenfell’s programs is the NORS phone line. 1-888-688-NORS (6677) is a service geared to people who are using alone. Call NORS, or pass this number on to anyone you know who is using any drugs like m**h or fentanyl (especially) - 57 overdoses have been called in in the span of around 3,000 calls since we started in December, 2020. That’s roughly 2% of calls resulting in an overdose, or 1/50.

That describes the gamble involved in hard drug use. Fentanyl in particular is becoming more and more toxic as new analogues like carfentanil hit the streets, and benzodiazepines which are questionable themselves as to their authenticity and purity like the alprazolam, brand name Xanax (which if often a research chemical called flualprazolam) which is often found in samples of fentanyl during lab testing.

Fentanyl is sometimes used as a cut in other drugs. Co***ne mainly, and sometimes m**hamphetamine. Neither drug is safe as they are both extremely cardio toxic and when mixed with ‘downer’ drugs like opioids or benzos a shot is like a game of russian roulette. Just because some survived the last hundred times. that doesn’t mean overdose mortality isn’t a single event. If you, or someone you know does - that’s a premature death to a toxic street supply.

We used to have a he**in problem past the OxyContin epidemic. Now we have he**in cut in our smorgasbord of fentanils. Topped with the knockoff Xanax.

As a part of the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada - Grenfell Ministries, NORS, alongside representatives of all the programs run will be speaking with public invite.

Stay tuned for the date. We have a lot to say.

Heart break and loneliness with an addiction is beyond common - but it feels like being the only one left alone in a war.

It feels like there’s no one to call. No matter what. Then, life is escaping you. No amount of intervention will help. You’re desperate for recognition to help this helpless state.. but if and when it actually comes - it isn’t what you need. Their presence, whoever they are - feels repulsive.

Maybe it actually is; because the people around you aren’t emphatic to your issues, and would rather chalk you to the pavement as useless, or proclaim weakness.

If your people are toxic. I won’t tell you you should ditch anyone forever, I don’t know your dynamics. But a ditch is a better place than ridicule when you’re falling apart. Find somewhere else to be if you can.

This is ‘rock bottom’. What exactly causes any one persons rock bottom is very personal. Even with common grounds in substance misuse and addiction with troubling circumstances. It’s literally insane what can happen to people. I don’t mean the repetition of it and expecting different results. This isn’t about stereotype. This is about lives coming undone. There is no blanket here to put to rest a state of being that’s come apart from everything that’s known and well. Rock bottoms are a statement to personal hell.

You feel like a visitor in your own life, which you’re passing by over and over again with someone else driving. Even though you’re in the drivers seat and you’re speeding along this dark road in silence, or maybe blaring cacophony.

You don’t feel yourself. You’ve lost control. You’d rather be dead. Don’t lose hope.

Nothing can make plain this brilliant, though troubled life you’re leading. You are worth being loved. Everyone is. You are worthy. So are your worst enemies. Forgive yourself. Even if you don’t mean it, it’s worth a try to forgive them. It takes a weight off.

Our lives are not to be defined by the worst person you’ve ever been, or the worst thing you’ve ever done. We’re all here, and so are you. For the time being, take a breath and feel the life left inside you.

You’re still strong.

I am on the board of directors for NORS. 1-800-688-NORS is the number you want to call if you’re using alone - anywhere in Canada.

At our last meet it was reported 56 overdoses were called in since the meeting prior. Imagine if they hadn’t have called?

Fentanyl

Did you know that a lot of Cartel fentanyl actually has origins in Wuhan, China? This city which is now infamous across the world since 2020 is also the origin of a large amount of fentanyl's manufacture.

A chemical precursor to fentanyl is manufactured here for synthesis in Mexico, where the final product (fentanyl) after being synthesized is then sent up through the Baja-California border into the USA.

A straight shot north from there is the Canadian province of British Columbia, and the city of Vancouver. This is why Vancouver has a drug problem which is disproportionate to the rest of the country. Nunavut is then another straight shot north - and in Nunavut is another massive problem with cartel drugs, as well as its pervasive social issues. The su***de rate for young men is 100x the Canadian national average in Nunavut.

Now to correlate a su***de rate here is a pretty loose correlation, but at the same time what goes around also comes around in unexpected ways. This is som**hing which could be considered a tertiary factor. It's a factor - but not one that's close to home, recognized, or even known.

There is no reason to spite the Chinese people for these origins, but recognition of negative issues as well as the positives in advocacy is incredibly important to bringing the great equalizer we hope to bring. Knowledge is power - and power in secrecy and great firewalls of misinformation isn't helping what's already a massive problem in our societies regarding drugs and drug policy.

Fentanyl is no joke. Neither is China, or any place in Asia. Methamphetamines are also extremely common in all of Asia. China and North Korea are together in business in a lot of m**h manufacture. We dont see it here, but in North Korea - 40% of its citizens use the drug. Mainly to stave off hunger.

So knowing some more of the issues in this war on drugs, and what's happening with drugs on an international stage. What's to be taken to stake here for drug policy in the West? What's our harm reduction effort for what's originating in the borders or another continent?

It doesn’t get easier with time, being addicted. You might just get hubris from the flip side to that end, while the hue which coloured this morning in use has all but left now, just to mourn you.

(The Goner)

Wherever you are. If you’re comfortable being on Social Media, you should be comfortable enough with reaching out to counselling, addictions and mental health services, and the vast array of communities online to seek support and help. Even friendship. COVID-19 may have stripped away our services across the world, but in our world we’ve got our own creation to network, support each other, and lean on. Everything’s going online all over, and you don’t even need to look for services only within your locale or region.

I’m serious, make calls wherever you can!

It’s not the same as going somewhere in person, yeah I know. It’s saved a lot of lives too - getting creative in how we reach out. This very strategy has saved mine, and given me validation as a person too.
