Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone is having a great start to their week 😊

I wanted to start this week with something valuable for everyone who is trying to get in shape for the summer.
Eating salad as a meal to cut down on calories is very common for people who are trying to lose body fat. However, how "healthy" are those salads we eat from the restaurants?

As an example, this was supposed to be my lunch the other day which I've ordered from a local restaurant. However, I ended up not eating it. Maybe it's not too visible in the photo but it was very greasy, packed with potatoes and very little chicken.

To me, if I am eating around 40 grams of fat, over 30 grams of carbs and very little protein in a salad, that doesn't meet my goals or my meal preferences. With calories that high for a single meal I consider it a "cheat meal" and I'd rather eat something more enjoyable and filling than a salad.
Bottom line is, salads come with sneaky calories unless you are concious of the dressing and the additional carbs in them such as qiunoa, noodles, rice, high starch veggies etc. Just because you are eating olive oil and qiunoa instead of white pasta and butter doesn't mean you'll be reaching those goals.

Who else is feeling the Monday blues? Sometimes I feel exhausted right after the weekend even though I get to rest and be slightly lazier than the weekdays.
Today I wanted something fun to eat and relax. So, I reached to my freezer and my wine rack 🍷
I love cooking and eating fresh but I don't think there is anything wrong with frozen food as long as you are conscious of what you are eating. If you have a favorite nutritious frozen food please share with me and comment below😊
Dr. Oetker mini cheese pizza
High Liner Pan Sear Selects Lime Chili Tilapia

Set your over to 425F
Place both the pizza and the fish on a sheet pan lined with aluminum and bake until golden brown
**I take the pizza out of the oven 10 mins earlier because the cheese tends to burn and I like my fish very crispy

I love me some seafood! Quesadilla is one of the easiest ways to use your leftovers and turn them into a filling meal. I make a proper quesadilla and dip it into non-fat sour cream and spicy guacamole. It's all about finding the balance😊

Vancouver has been very cold lately and all I need during the wintertime is heartwarming food, an exciting book, and my phone to share these delicious recipes with you 😊
Yesterday's recipe was chicken parm and today's recipe is cioppino with jasmine rice. I have a little Italian inspiration going on this week 🇮🇹
Although this is not a typical cioppino recipe, I tried sticking to the basics. I didn't have everything at my local grocery store so I used baby scallops and prawns instead. You get your carbs from the rice and the tomato broth, and seafood is packed with lean protein 😉

If you are on the go in the morning like I am then you are going to love these egg muffins 😋

They are incredibly easy to make, pack and eat on the go! I made two different types this week, mushroom and peppers & peppers and cheddar, but you could use left overs or what ever is in your fridge.

Tip: To cut down the fat you could replace 50 grams of egg whites for every egg. I used a mix of whole eggs and egg whites.

Happy Monday friends! I hope everyone had a great, productive weekend 😊
Here is a quick, delicious and nutritious recipe for the ultimate comfort food - Chicken Parmesan.
I've replaced some key ingredients for this dish and recreated a more nutritious, low-calorie version.
1. Replace spaghetti with spaghetti squash
2. Use Shake and bake for the breading. A little goes a long way
3. Bake the breaded chicken breast instead of frying it
4. Use your favorite marinara sauce instead of reinventing the wheel
5. Use a mix of parmesan and low-fat mozzarella

These roasted, one-pan vegetables are quick, colorful and make the perfect side dish! I find that side dishes are as important as the main dish. Especially while meal prepping and living a balanced eating lifestyle, it is important to keep things exciting. Vegetables are not typically the most exciting food on its own but with the right spices and different cooking techniques, they could be quite intriguing.

About

I’ve created Eat Your Carbs to share the food recipes I eat every day and how I maintain a balanced life without a “diet”. This lifestyle is for people who want to get in shape or maintain their current shape without sacrificing the food they love.

I was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey and moved to Vancouver, BC for college. I went to UBC for computer engineering and I still live in beautiful Vancity with my dog, Vixen. At eatyourcarbs.ca you’ll find a variety of healthy and macro-friendly dishes that are filling and don’t sacrifice any of the flavour, as well as homemade cheat meals and Vancouver treats.

I believe in moderation in everything I do, including eating healthy and exercise. My goal is to help you find a balanced, healthy and fit lifestyle which is realistic and easy to maintain.

This page is to bring like minded people together and create a community where everyone is supportive of each other. I find being accountable in a team environment works best for success. We all struggle and go through gloomy days but it is important to have someone to talk to and share your struggles with.
